Long vacation for H1
I am on H1 and working here since 20 months.I wanted to go for long
vacation probably for 4- 5 months.Will this be a problem?I mean will I
face any problems at the port of entry I come here for the secong
time.
When the renewal for H1 should be applied?

No (assuming you have a valid H-1 visa). Best to have a recently dated
letter from the employer confirming that you still have a job to
return to.

Between 6 months before the expiry date of the current petition and
the expiry date of the current petition.

Be sure to keep a record of your time out of the country. You may be
elegible to recover this time at the end of your H1. This is in regard
to the the six year limit. Record keeping might be copies of tickets,
the letter mentioned above, I-94s.
Then show that information to your immigration professional at renewal
time.

Thnks for the response,
When contacted my employer ,what I was told that the maximum period
that one can be away from US is 2 months.
I will be questioned at the port of entry.
I do not how far this is true.
thanks
