ive heard loads of people have done this on vwp got married in uk when they were on the vwp

Please post about one case per thread. You're asking for confusion otherwise and these are delicate and important subjects. You don't want confusion.

The UK does not have a 'vwp'.

In the very recent past, non EU citizens could not marry in the UK without a special visa. This is changing, so you will want to research that with the UK immigration rules.

Of course there are a lot of practical reasons to not plan on marrying someone you have never met in person.
