Re: An update from the Sunshine Coast
I cant believe theres others like us!! i thought we were the only people around that dont know if they are coming or going!!we moved to the gold coast last year, myself, hubby and 3 boys 16,13 and 9.we stayed for 9 months and came back to the uk thinking we never wanted to see australia again,we felt sooo homesick there and found it hard not meeting many expats to talk with, wel we have been home now for 3 months and are seriously thinking of coming back, the only problem being my thirteen year old is having none of it!!he says he wont get on the flight!!i do understand what he means because when we were in oz all he heard was me moaning that i was lonely etc.he was also fed up that they didnt play(proper football!!!)i feel that i want to go back because i came home with rose tinted glasses thinking that life was going to be great but it was the same as its always been here-boring and rainy!!
we will have to make the decision before long and are considering going to perth as there are friends and family of ours there and more expats for my son to play his football with, and also people say there is much more work for hubby in perth as hes a brickie.im just a little worried after seeing the beautiful beaches on the gold coast that perth might not be as beautiful?
good luck to all you ping pongs as i know how hard these decisions are.xxxx

Our 13 year old son was a bit like that at first but now he can't waite. Even our daughter who said she would never, ever live in Oz has decided she wants to give it a go.
I didn't push it too much but made subtle comments and then just left him to think about what I had said.

Aww Sue thank you! Not long till your here surely? A big thanks to Cliff and Mandi for helping us out so much, they are very wise indeed! I've chewed their ears off on many an occasion (Cliff loves it)! Support at the weekends for Mark - well Susie and Rich of course! They have provided much needed alcohol (and cous cous). Just wish I could sort out my work . Sometimes its a case of better the devil you know!

The boys are growing so quickly! Cameron's girlfriend is flying over from the UK in a weeks time. We're all flying up to Cairns to meet for a week of R&R! Aaron is still playing various muscial instruments (guitar, sax, drums - you name it the boy can play it). Ollie has now turned 8! Had a bit of a birthday BBQ for him - he ate far too much choco cake then misbehaved for the whole of the evening! All 3 boys have very strong Queensland accents - all three don't want to return to the UK not even for a holiday.
Have various rellies coming over.......my sister Katy, Mark's old colleagues then my Aunt and Uncle!
Still haven't found a decent hairdresser!
My sister sends reg supplies of bourbon's, custard creams, prawn and cocktail crisps and of course Bisto!
The working relation laws still piss me off greatly!
I miss my good mates who I grew up with in the UK - luckily most are planning on visiting us at some stage!
Definately have stages where I feel I'm in "Life on Mars" - everytime I step outside my front door I go back 30yrs!
I'd forgotten just how cold the winters get here, and the fact Qld houses aren't rigged up for cold weather! We have fleecy PJ's and hot water bottles! We brought an oil heater but being aussie made it broke within the first 24hrs!
I get my undies from ebay - definately happy with the cost and fit!
Family send over clothes for the boys (mainly t-shirts and shorts)!
We still eat out a fair deal! With all the lovely restaurants in the area we just can't help it!!!!
The veggie patch is growing well and we're recycling water - despite living in an area where it rains almost every night!
We still make the most of the outdoors! Evening strolls on the beach! Photography is going well, more of my pics appeared in SALT magazine which was nice to see!
Sarah-J have I missed anything???????

Debs and Baz went off to one of those adult only rainforest retreats (lucky buggers) haven't heard off her since! Maybe they're still stuck up a tree with a koala for company? Be good to see you up here! Its a nice place to bring up kids. Mark says he saw Debs whilst doing a speed trap a few days ago (nope she wasn't speeding)! Will text her for you!
