Re: 18 months in Perth - missing home!
Well, another update on our situation ->
I am now in Melbourne since Tuesday, and have managed to secure a rental in Mordialloc down the bay halfway between the city and Franktson, where my wife Jen is working, and I must say its made a great first impression (well i second impression, i spent 8 months here about 6 years ago...) on me, for a start, getting around Melbourne on public transport(the car is yet to arrive from WA) is simple, the services are regular and go everywhere, and I can walk to a pub...HURRAY!!! no longer will one of us have to drive and stay sober but if we choose to get a taxi, we can actually get one.The infrastructure is all there, the bars and city are thriving, the shopping is fantastic and shops are actually open at convinient times and i have had several conversations with complete strangers who dont look like they want to steal my kidneys...sorry im overreacting, im just glad to be back in civilisation! What ive learned from my last 2 years is its not all about beaches and sunshine...its about location location location!:D |

I've enjoyed reading this thread. We've been researching the whole of Oz, trying to determine where best to be, and of course much is dictated by work.
We had toyed with Perth but (from afar) were concerned of feeling a little cut off and had considered many of the negative points raised. I dont see the positive points outweighing the neg at the moment. I know its horses for courses and one man's whatnot is another mans etcetc.. but I have to say, I think this thread has 'helpfully' tipped the balance for me. :) |

I have to deal myself a slice of humble pie. Although we havent yet stepped foot on Perth soil we have spoken directly to folk who live there and researched more into living in this city. I have to admit it has now become a much more appealing place to live (on paper) than say busy Melbourne etc. I suppose wherever you are you just have to give it a go... :)
