Are you talking about the video itself, or an ad inserted into the video? Due to my use of adblock, I never see the latter. If it were the former, I'd just stop watching it if it wasn't what I was looking to see.

I use adblock, but on youtube when you open a video there is still the 5 seconds or whatever until the stop ad button comes up. If there was an ad inserted into the middle of a video I think it would appear as well. Since it's in something you've voluntarily opened the adblock doesn't recognise it as a foreign body. Pulaski must be getting special treatment, like he's being recognised as a prime consumer candidate. Possibly using Google a lot, that would do it.

It must depend on what adblock/browser combination that's in use because that never happens to me. I use Chrome with Adblock Plus (though I believe uBlock Origin is supposed to be better).

Firefox and Adblock +; I don't even load Chrome as a spare anymore.

Chrome has a fetish for RAM

I have only used Firefox for my Rosetta Stone lessons because Chrome stopped wanting to support my mic, I shall have to try it with YouTube tonight to see if I can replicate your results.

I have not used any sort of ad-blocker in many years, and no sooner than I tried it a few weeks ago, I have had nothing but problems.

I was getting blocked from accessing multiple sites that could see I was blocking ads, and when I tried to undo the ad-blocker embedded in my anti-virus software I couldn't get it completely switched off, without turning off other controls, which is probably a bad idea, but it seemed to spook Chrome, which is now unstable and won't allow me to log into Google! In short, something in my PC has come unraveled and I seriously regret dabbling in ad-blocking.

It sounds like you have another issue going on there that may or may not be related to your adblocker.

All I did was add the Adblock Plus extension to Chrome and I have had no issues. I think it may be worth doing a system restore to a point before you installed your adblocker and rebuild from there. I haven't used it myself but a lot of power users seem to swear by uBlock Origin - that may be worth a go.

That is probably true, but immediately that I enabled an ad blocker, I was getting multiple sites blocking my access. .... And things spiraled downwards from there.

It wasn't Adblock Plus then, I take it? Some sites (mostly newspapers and the like) don't like adblockers, but they will give you an option to whitelist them or subscribe to keep the adblocker, rather than just outright blocking them.

If you haven't been able to succesfully remove your adblocker, then try a system restore, or completely uninstall Chrome and reinstall it without the extension. Unless the adblocker is a separate program on its own, then try something like Revo Uninstaller, which will not just get rid of the program, but will also clean up your registry as well. Start with system restore first though.

I use uBlock Origin. It block the adverts on the local news channel that I watch. I used to have to pay enough attention to mute the adverts when they came up and unmute when they were over, now I just get silence for three minutes.

I've pretty much settled on Chrome as my daily driver and don't even install Firefox any longer. I really appreciate the way Chrome recovers from laptop crashes (seamlessly restores tabs) and shares searches across my laptop and my phone (so if I do a search when out and about on my phone, usually using 'voice commands', I can follow up on that search when I get home). I have a laptop with 8 Gig RAM, and I have a ridiculous number of Chrome sessions and tabs open ... over 250 tabs according to the following screenshot, spread across 7 chrome sessions, and I'm not seeing any real issues relating to RAM.

I use a very primitive but effective ad-block strategy that has served me very well for several years now, described on this site - Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File . it requires a manual edit to your 'hosts' file, but once done, works really well. It does prevent me from visiting ad sites placed on google search result pages, but that's not a terrible thing!

Dude, what did Chrome do to you - you're beating the absolute shite out of it in that screenshot

You won't necessarily see any issues with RAM when just browsing, but it will use up a fair chunk, so if you decide to do anything else, you may notice a drop in performance. Of course it depends on what you're doing, your CPU/GPU etc. If you're not doing a lot of gaming, 8GB is plenty.

I don't do gaming at all. But I do also have word, excel, outlook, and lots of other apps running most of the time. I also have an SSD, which makes 'paging' fast so I don't notice it happening. I don't have a dedicated GPU (I have integrated Intel graphics on the CPU chip). I also have my cpu throttled at about 75% so the fan never kicks in (I'm rather obsessive about fan noise!). Windows 10 has become so stable of late that I hardly crash any longer. I have noticed excel getting a bit 'weird' when I have 5 or 6 spreadsheets open.

What I really need to do is figure a way to manage browser sessions better. Roughly speaking, each 'chrome session' is a 'subject area', and the tabs within it are topics I'm interested in at the time. So - I may have a session for 'real estate', and all the tabs within it are just different pages I've found that are of interest. Another chrome session may be 'technology', and all the tabs within it are pages along that line. This could all be handled by 'bookmarks' in theory; chrome lets you organize bookmarks by subject, so in theory that should be possible but I'm always finding new pages as I google topics, and constantly saving those tabs as bookmarks in the appropriate category just doesn't seem to work for me. Also, some techie sites have very active discussion threads, and I keep a tab open for each and every thread so I can follow updates without having to open/close tabs all the time. So I just keep adding and adding and adding. Once in a long while, I'll go through and purge out all the dead tabs.

But the remarkable thing is - it works well for me so no compelling reason to change!

Ultimately if it works, there's no sense in farting around with it. Your Office applications aren't going to be very resource hungry at all unless you're doing some massive calculation on a multi-sheet workbook or something, so you'll be fine.

I do a lot of gaming, and I'm often using 75% or more of my ram, even with 6GB of video ram, so I am considering going up to 16GB soon to avoid any potential bottleneck. Even when idling though, I have noticed Chrome using up to 47% of my memory (and I usually only have 3-4 tabs open max), which was kind of annoying. Of course, normally it is closed when I'm playing a game, the only exception being Football Manager, where I will have Chrome open on a second screen so I can watch YouTube while I play, since it's essentially a text-only game with a reasonably limited match engine.

No ads to be seen while I do it though

Gaming is probably the most intensive uses any computer is ever put to!

Here's my task manager screen for the current setup:

Interestingly, the '61' count next to Chrome bears no relation to the actual tab count (circa 250).
