yanks and pies

Re: yanks and pies
Yeah, but you can >get< 'em. I hated the first White Castle I ever had, but now I have a twisted sort of yearning... and... Chicago-style pizza ohh boy..., and... it's been decades, but there used to be a thing called "A&W". I don't suppose they exist anymore. The only "root beer" I ever found desirable. They also used to have a "basket o' shrimp' and something called "tenderloins", which were also ridiculous, but somehow I have a yearning...

Oh dear. I agree with the pie petition. I wonder if they will take any notice of a non UK resident?

Re: yanks and pies
A&W root beer is better than Mug root beer, but not a patch on Barq's. As far as I know Barq's is the only root beer that adds caffeine to their recipe, and the flavour has a nice bite to it. Unfortunately Barq's is also heavy on sugar, so between that and the caffeine it is only an occasional treat.

I find A&W really smooth but still good, and Barqs of course has bite, all depends on my mood as to which I will choose....lol

This is magnificent. Now if only we could get this political hot potato mashed and get some gravy and mushy peas. Power to the people

A&W restaurants still exist but no idea if the menu is the same or not.

Re: yanks and pies
I've had the pies in Australia. There's no common Yank equivalent -- we have our own starch-and-meat snack foods (hot dogs, burgers, burritos, cheesesteak, hoagies, po' boys, etc.), but pies aren't really on that list.
As kids, we had mass produced fruit pies (low priced, sold as junk food) that are made to be eaten by hand. But pies are otherwise eaten with a knife and fork, and they are usually sweet instead of savory.
The pot pie is the closest thing that the US has to an Aussie-style pie, but they aren't that similar. It's more of a meal item eaten while sober than a snack eaten while drunk.
In Quebec, they have tortière, which is a meat pie made with ground/mince meat. But that's not really like the Aussie pies, either.

Re: yanks and pies
Pies are a meal, or most of one, accompanied by vegetables and perhaps potatoes in some form. They are not generally thought of as food to eat while drunk, though a good beer would be a good drink to accompany a pie-based meal.

You obviously don't understand pies, but then you're American so that goes without saying.
