Re: WTF in America
My son made sausage rolls the other day. He bought pre-made flaky pastry at Asda, and then took apart some sausages to get sausage filling (no, I don't know why he didn't just buy sausage meat), and added some things to it, and then baked. I asked him how many he made, and said "two". I said that I thought that this seemed like a lot of work for two sausage rolls, but he explained that each one was a foot long so he was just being an efficient engineer.

He's coming along slowly. He's got one chili dish that OH taught him, other than that it's mostly fry ups of one kind or another and sometimes a baked chicken thing where you buy a Nando's spice packet, coat chicken pieces in it and bake in a bag.

Re: WTF in America
My second son's right into cooking, but he's a lot older than Little Lion. He loves telling me about the latest dishes he's made, which fresh herbs and spices he used, which cut of meat gave the best result, how he cooked the various accompaniments. I'm usually very interested, but sometimes I have to stop myself saying 'Mummy bored now'.

Forgive me if I'm being obtuse, but do I understand correctly that in 2020, in the USA, there is no concrete legislation AGAINST lynching?

I think there should actually be a petition signed to change the name from USA to WTF America.

So I would characterize any attempt to pass a law against lynching is pointless political grandstanding that will have no impact on the existing laws that are explicitly clear, that depriving someone of their life carelessly, recklessly, or with maliceaforthought is a crime, that can typically get you locked up for "life without the possibility of parole", or worse (we are talking about America ) so there isn't even the "wire fraud" excuse for creating a new offence that has more severe punishment.

This was posted originally in the George Floyd thread. Have a scroll through. It does explain a few things.

There are several degrees of murder and/ or homicide depending on which state you're talking about, as well as federal laws. There can also be aggravating factors, which can elevate the killing to a capital offense, and that would be typical for a lynching, but AFAIK there are no specific legal prohibitions on "lynching" any more that there are specific prohibitions on "stabbing", "strangling", "shooting", or "poisoning".

Thankfully I don't get to see Ms Madcow very often, but let's enjoy a few seconds reliving her appearance on TV the morning after the 2016 election.

Re: WTF in America
Not so much a WTF, but man was this a huge fire at an Amazon fulfillment center, the fire chief seems a bit concerned about the speed in which the fire spread. 3rd party company who Amazon contracts with.

Now this guy is quite entertaining, but he is deaf. In order for him to undertake the ASL interpretation he has to have an ASL interpreter signing to him what is being said. Portland pays for 2 people to do 1 job.
