There was a bear up one of the trees on our street early this morning. It was tranquilized and taken back into the hills behind the house. I dare say it will be back again pretty soon.
We build new housing development close to or in the hills for the scenery and the views but we forget that these animals were here first and we've invaded and taken over their territory.
It's always nice to see wild life in harmony with humans when possible. On a trip to the Royal Gorge in Colorado a few years ago we saw a mother deer and her young walking along the main street and the locals didn't bat an eyelid. Some were so tame that you could hand feed them.
A friend of ours lives up in Canada. A moose or two wandering around downtown is a common sight in her part of the world.

I do not know how much they weigh, but a good size Elk will be more than 800lb and these are bigger.
