Re: WTF in America
I totally feel that it should be newsworthy and any murder deserves some type of attention. Not to make light of one murder over another but the GA craigslist murders went national and I would have thought the same attention would have been given to the NC Muslim killings but that was not the case.
As for BE, I am surprised but maybe everyone is desensitized, I don't know just a guess.

I wouldn't be so sure. ISIS has managed to murder, in some of the most gruesome ways imaginable, several Americans as well as British, French, Japanese, and recently a Jordanian, among many others of various nationalities, without unleashing more than a half-hearted air campaign.

Sad to say, but I think there are just too many murders on a daily basis for every single one to get airtime on the evening news - I'm not sure we even get all of our own cities murders reported. Although a triple murder no doubt should elevate its reportabilityness....

I wonder if people ever consider that we do have Muslim members of the site.

Murders happen so often that the news sometimes barely even report them.
This may or may not have been a hate crime all depends what they end up digging up on this guy, just because its a white guy and the victims are Muslim does not make it an automatic hate crime.
I've seen so many murders reported over my lifetime, I've pretty much stopped paying attention to the reports on the news and more or less don't even read or watch the news except for business section and local section, no need to watch the rest and its better for my mental health to limit my news intake as well, too negative.

Probably more to do with it then anything else. Can't report every murder in an hour, and if something more pressing happened in say a west coast city its not likely a murder on the east coast would make the news.

Re: WTF in America
I have seen it on the news here in Missouri. The local NBC station has been following it.
Who is N.C. shooting suspect Craig Hicks? | National News - KY3.com
They have been reporting it even thought the story dominating their time has been about a police officer in Springfield by a man that was arrested earlier in the day, then released. He was a convicted felon, and should not have been allowed to own a gun. Here in Springfield the gun debate is going once again.

Re: WTF in America
Totally agree. There seems to be a massive rush to classify crimes as "race related" whenever different races are involved....there almost seems to be a reluctance in some quarters to accept that people can have differences quite unrelated to the color of their skins. In this case however, there does seem to be some background of this guy making racist statements and threats. Plus my earlier post ref wife not doing him any favors in her press statement!
We know that for sure because whenever there's any news about racially-motivated crime, minority leaders speaking out against it, or mass anti-racist protests, it always comes from there.
You rarely see news about racism coming from any other country, do you?
