Default Very cool Chase/BA card if one has some dosh

http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1645194

If you can spend $2k on the card over three months, you'll get 100,000 FF miles on BA. Ways of spending $2k if you haven't got it? Buy stuff for friends and family and have them give you the money for them.

I hope this helps some of you!

Thanks!! Fantastic, British Airways is the only direct carrier from Tampa - just applied. Can't karma till I've spread some around, it says...

Direct Link to the offer is here: http://www.mychasecreditcards.com/br...ays/hp_postpin

Edit: Re ways of spending dosh....in this day and age there is no reason not spend every last penny on your credit cards....then just pay the balance off in full every month; you incur no interest and it's a very good way of getting free stuff.

Just applied.

100K points is enough for 2x round trip economy to Europe or 1x Business class.

NB - taxes and fees still need paying and there's a $75 annual fee.

There is another offer that gives you a free companion ticket in any class if you spend $30,000 in one year. Put your mortgage or rent on the card and get a ticket.

That is extremely tempting. I could easily spend $2k in three months.

Only issue we have is that BA doesn't fly from our local airport, so would we be able to use these FF miles. Can they be used on the 'partner' airlines?

By the sound of it, yes. The only thing that can't be used on partner airlines the extra deal that Penguin 6 is talking about - if you spend $30,000 on the card in a year, you get a companion voucher that allows companions to travel for free - that voucher is only valid on BA. Theres a bit of discussion about in on the flyertalk forum; I don't have a direct link, sorry, but you'll find that discussion with some deft googling.

Just got this card in the mail and will put daughter's college tuition on it to first reach the 2K threshhold and then try for the 30K (probably attainable with another starting college in 2010).

Go to NorthEastern and it's $50K a year for a compsci course, easily make that threshold

I applied for a second card (for my wife) last week. Thanks Snowbunny for thinking to post this... I should have been more thoughtful of my fellow expats

I've had the Chase British Airways card for 5 years now, and as a family we haven't paid for an airfare once in that time.

We charge everything to the BA card... except mortgage. Has anyone really tried that? I would have thought the mortgage company would have some concerns about paying one debt with another...

Oh yeah, and I don't charge our property tax either... because the bastards at the county tax office use an outside payment company that charge a $275 "convenience fee" for paying using a credit card!

The free companion certificate if you spend $30,000 in a year is new and I'm looking forward to using ours next year.

You also get $50 per ticket off if you use your credit card to book BA tickets online, and in theory if you buy a "full price" ticket in any class, they'll give you a free companion flight... but since I only ever use airmiles to pay for flights I've never tried. Oh, and because a "full price" ticket probably costs more than my car

I've never used frequent flyer miles or credit card bonus points for airfare, though -- how does that work exactly? When it says you have to pay taxes/fees, etc, does that mean that if the flight normally costs, say, $750, you're still stuck paying the ~$400 in taxes and fees? Not that $350 isn't a savings (although you still have a $75 annual fee to pay also) Also, what about blackout dates?

1. Yes that's what it means.

2. Depends, sometimes there are and sometimes there aren't.

3. Got me back and forth across the pond a few times,

Beware? Any specifics? I've had two chase cards for about 7 years now, and never had a problem, but then I've not had many interactions with customer service.

Do their customer service agents walk up to you in the street and slap you? Take your lunch from the office fridge? Swap your dog for a skunk?
