A remote operated garage door opener, a subscription for XM radio (because the radio ads annoy me as much as the TV ads).

A weather radio... gone are the days of looking out the window and saying 'oh its raining/not raining'... now we need a weather radio to warn us of extreme weather.

On a side note, last weekend I felt my very first earthquake... only a 4.2 but still it was interesting.

Good intoductory size, can be felt by some, but not enough to damage much if anything.

We get a few around here in that size range, but I never feel them, I even sat through a movie in a theatre once with there was a 5.1 or 5.2 when living in California and had no idea it happened nor did anyone else from the looks of it, wasn't until the news mentioned it.

I can remember 3 over my life I have felt, once in 91 or 92, the big one over easter sunday in 2010, and an aftershock to the 2010 one.

All the others, never felt, but they were all mostly under 5's.

We felt a 5.8 centered a couple of hundred miles north in VA, back in 2011. It was apparently extraordinary because unlike earthquakes in areas such as CA, where they are relatively common, over here on the east coast, the tectonic plate "rang like a bell" so it could be felt over a much larger area than most earthquakes of that size.

I was at work when it happened and the office building noticeably shook, though more up and down than side to side. It was like we were sitting on a giant drum skin.

Power tools for home fixing, including a brad nailer, air compressor and a chainsaw to cut a huge tree branch into manageable pieces. Bladed power tools and the one that shoots nails scare me but I use them anyway. I didn't even know what a brad nailer and compressor were when I started this.

I'm moving in a few months and doing the DIY thing to save $$ on fixes. I did some awesome work if I say so myself. Lots of things left to do that I'm dreading. I can't wait to get that money, move and lapse into lazy female helplessness like I was doing before.

4ft. I considered the 6ft, but I anticipated using them in a crawlspace or garage and thought the 4ft would be more convenient. Thankfully I have never had to use them for their designed purpose.

Never heard of such a thing until you posted. Had to google to see what they were. Fortunately not a requirement in our part of Oregon. May you never need to use them in the heat of battle.
