I forgot one, peanut butter filled pretzels. Big bag for under $4. Great to send with teenagers.

There are many Aldis around my house. I'm always pleasantly surprised by how good store-brand Aldi products are. The Aldi stores are somewhat low rent in my area, you have to look past that. Aldi + Trader Joes + Fresh Market + Whole Foods + Marianos + Costco = my pantry. Trader Joes does have great chocolate. My Whole Foods sells a huge variety of excellent luxury American chocolate brands but they're very expensive. Cost Plus World Market has an excellent selection of imported European sweets if you're looking for them.

Sidenote: Aldi apparently sells very, very inexpensive but quality cycling gear in the UK. They should bring some of that over here.

Lidl (another German discounter, as they're called in Germany ) is supposedly coming to the US soon. Can't wait!
I have around three Aldi's close to me and one Trader Joe's. With being German, I am, too, disappointed in the lacking variety of imported stuff in their regular stock, but absolutely go nuts over their Christmas sale or if they have German weeks. My freezer is always full afterwards

In the last year they've opened up at least 5 Aldi's within 30mins of me, and another is being built about a 5minute walk from my place.
Each one is identical in footprint and stock etc, and all are spotless.
As mentioned before, their produce doesn't last very long but if you can do things the more European way - buy what you need for a few days but make more trips - then you're fine.

The chocolate mentioned before is great and is what makes me keep going back. I don't need to bring tonnes of chocolate back from home now I know this is available.
Coincidentally, when I was home last month I went to Aldi and they stock the same chocolate there.

Their range of children's food is great too, especially the formula.

I read in the paper the other day that there is a Lidl opening near us in the near future. SE US.

No Aldis sadly! The nearest is a looong drive.

Also no Trader Joes (closest is 40 mins away). We have several independent (i.e. high priced) supermarkets here, plus Stop&Shop & Shaws. Bah!!!

So, I went to Ikea for some throw away items and they have some pretty good chocolate too.

Ikea also does kids eat free days, and the food is good for the price.

There's one in Simi Valley (CA).

Only go in there for the chocolate - very good. Won't be going again, since I can't be trusted.

I tried the Aldi's organic milk, it was pretty good and much cheaper than the local supermarket.

Just went to one for the first time that opened down in Chula.

Great prices, especially for the fresh produce.
Large avocados at 0.39 each; fresh blueberries at $1 a container... large mangoes at 0.39 each too.

Will certainly be going back but don't forget to being a quarter for your shopping cart

An Aldi is due to be opening here in Mt P soon, next summer I think. A bowling alley was just demolished for that very purpose. It is just along the road from Trader Joes and Whole Foods, so we won't have to travel far for grocery shopping. I used to shop at Aldi and Lidl a lot when I was at Uni in Preston, the only thing that springs to mind that I particularly liked was their fishcakes, and they had great deals on yogurts.
