Had the mis-fortune to finally watch Revolution last night. To call it bollocks would be doing a disservice to testicles. The "plot" is that one night electricity stops working. I'll let Sheldon take on the physics of that. Anyway, at this point, it could make an interesting story. How do people and society deal with this. That would be far to difficult and interesting to do of course, so instead we fast forward 15 years to see what's happened. What do we learn from this? Well;

1. 15 years without electricity causes large suspension bridges to fall down.
2. Keeping buildings free of weeds is beyond anyone without a strimmer and a leaf blower.
3. Guns must work on electricity, because crossbows and bows-and-arrows are the new thing.
4. No one seems to be able to make a working steam engine or make use of natural gas. Instead, it's back to medieval times (no, not the dinner show).
5. The "big bad" lives in a Gaddafi-like giant tent. In Illinois. Seriously.
6. A bolt form a crossbow can push a charging, 200lb man backwards. A quick bit of F=ma shows that the bolt must be approaching light speed.

I could go on, but I'm losing the will. The whole thing pisses me off, because with a little thought and effort, it could be an interesting premise to hang a show on. Instead, some waste-of-space looked at the Hunger Games and thought "Young people with arrows. Lets make a show with that". Time like these make me wish I was a Octopod with hands instead of tentacles. Then I could give it 8 thumbs down.

Amazing Race starts tonight. I love this show, as me and my daughter curl up on the sofa, eat something sweet and chat and laugh our way through it.

She swears blind that we are entering the show when she turns 18, she wants to do all the extreme nutty stuff, I have to do all the crap:unsure:

It is lovely, she's at that age where we can watch things that we all enjoy.

Unfortunately, I've just realized it doesn't start until next week:( I was all set with my cheesecake too.

If the school was closed down in winter we would spend the day watching movies...snuggled up on the sofa with lots of treats.

Anyway, Revolution.

Just saw the online preview first episode and was surprised that it wasn't as shit as expected. Kind of fun, but doesn't seem to original, bit of a mash up of a bunch of recent shows that were all canned, so we'll see how this goes, but pretty good cliff hanger to the episode. Worth a punt.

I confess I'm torn. I felt underwhelmed by the first episode (it was cheesy in a Terra Nova kind of way and the plot made no sense) but I think there was enough there for me to continue watching.

Decent things coming back soon - Downton Abbey Season 3, Homeland Season 2 and the Walking Dead season 3.

With the Walking Dead David Morrissey is the Governor this time round which should be awesome; on the other hand there are going to be 16 episodes which I think is too many. I think it might lead to pacing problems like the first half of season 2 - 10 per season seems to be about right.

Oh if anyone liked Pillars of the Earth, the sequel has been made into a series. It's airing in Canada on Showcase at the moment and will be over here in the US on the Reelz cable channel. It has a lower budget feel and the acting isn't as good (the music is terrible) but it's fairly watchable and the Ken Follet book it was based on was pretty good.

Oh, one series I gave up a while back was 'Hell on Wheels'. Thought the pilot was a bit rubbish and the characters weren't very likable. It came up on Netflix so I thought I would give it another chance. It turned out to be quite good in the end mainly because of the evil Swedish character (Christopher Heyerdahl). Think in future I'll give a series a couple of episodes to warm up.

Is that one coming back on? I thought it was quite good.

PS wasn't the bloke Norwegian but everyone assumed he was Swedish?

Downton is already 2 episodes in.

Homeland, I'll give it another punt but I thought it got shit towards the end.

The Ken Follett thing, we're watching it too, but it seems not as well paced as the first one, a little more cliché and formulaic....but still worth a punt.

Speaking of though, the second of the century trilogy came out, which is cool.

Saw a few episodes of Copper. The whole necrophiliac paedophile story was a bit of an odd choice. I don't think I'll bother with it for now.

Anyone catch Castle and Hawaii 5-0?

Hawaii 5-0 was fabulously awful. Helicopters with crane attachments to free the bad guy, an evil mother and a new girl. Lacking in the McGarret shirtless stakes, but it was episode 1. Not sure why it took 5 mins for the elite policeforce to hit any of their targets though. Perhaps they haven't been on the range over the summer break.

Watched Castle last night. Thought is was a little bleh. Can't put my finger on it, because I usually like it. Haven't got around to CSI: Hawaii yet.

Watching Boardwalk Empire right now - love Steve Buscemi.

My friend is obsessed with Dexter so I'll give it another try. Homeland too - apparently crazy chick is not supposed to be so crazy this year. So that might help.

Can't wait for Walking Dead - miss me zombies.

After I told my computer I wanted the show, the episodes just magically appear on the hard drive, I had no idea it wasn't being broadcast in America yet.
