I've been neglecting my garage door, apparently you are supposed to get them serviced fairly regularly
Half of my rollers are missing the little plastic sleeves or whatever they are called. My rollers don't actually even roll because the previous owner filled the guide rails with lots of grease, so they just slide up and down on that. I get a nice loud "clunk" sound around half way because the joins on the guide rail are not perfectly aligned in one spot.

I also noticed fore the first time two dials on the opener which appears to be settings for the speed of opening and closing. Why would anyone care about having different speeds for opening versus closing

On my opener those dials control how much force the door can apply when opening or closing before it realises there's an obstruction and shuts off the motor.

When a spring breaks, it is possible to open a one-piece door. Difficult but possible.

However, once had the pivot rivet in the mounting bracket break. The garage door service people got that fixed. At the same time replaced the thirty year old Genie screw-drive while we were at it.

Look like things have gone beyond the basic opener with a built in light. Now they are online, smart phone app control, battery backup, wall openers with digital screens etc.

I wonder if the built in opener buttons in both my cars (2006, 2007) will still work with the latest rolling code security they have these days. Thats probably going to have to be a wait and see, possibly going back to having to use the clunky remote in the car.

Nice, hope it lasts. Anytime the temperature gets near freezing the screw drives seem loud no matter what.
