Re: Planespotting

Apparently the target was a Turkish Airlines flight but they cancelled their fligjt and the Turkish Airlines passengers 70 of them were transffered to Daallo Airlines.

Flight had 74 pax in total so minus the 70 Turkish Airline pax and Daallo had 4 pax booked.

They suspect a laptop was used and possible inside help.

RyanAir, Alaska Airlines, flydubai, Comair & Skymark is also 100% 737. However Southwest has the worlds largest 737 fleet (by a long way) with 700 ish in service.

That brings back memories. .... I worked for a while in an office in the center-screen of the opening shot (Kew Bridge is on the extreme right) on the north bank of the Thames, with a view to the south so I could see the planes coming in. :)

Memories for me too. As the plane comes in you can see the ops vehicles waiting to enter the runway for an inspection, something I did for 8 years.

I didn't realise that Alaska stopped using the MD-80. That crash over the pacific with the jack screw failure (Alaska 261 I think?)... that must have been a horrible was to die.

Just like AA 582 which crashed in Queens, New York, when it was caught up in the Jet Wash of a 747, which had just taken off before it. That was in October 2001.

Although it wasn't the jet wash that caused the crash - it was the First Officers far too aggressive, full deflection, rudder inputs that tore the tail off the aircraft. Aerodynamic forces were just astronomical.

In Phoenix once we had ground crew push a plane into the terminal, the scar on the building was there (might still be?) for many years and never repaired.. The plane spent a week and some change out of service awaiting parts from Airbus.

Nice. I didn't know Bruce was rated for the 747, I thought he was a 757/767 pilot. That's cool - he really is a lucky bastard :D

If anyone's interested, he did a show about aviation, Flying Heavy Metal. Here's a link to the first episode, the others can be found on youtube via this one:
