Neither. The stupid women who think it's sweet/cute/endearing to talk in an almost whisper and they all do this stupid thing with their lips when they talk. I want to punch their faces in.

In that case, I think you should. ;)

I hate the put on "squeaky little girl voice" thing too.. irritating when it's a woman in her 30's.

At least they don't hear your accent, make a few incorrect mental leaps in their head, then call it a 'brogue' and bang on about how great the forkin' IRA are. I'd kill for a few 'cute accent' comments sometimes.

That's a big peeve of mine :banghead:

quick comment: I was once asked what language do they speak in England.
Another time asked if they speak French in England.
This one gets me though, local young man from S.E. VA took a trip to rural N.Y. and stated in amazement "They have trees up there."

To which you affect your most patronising, yet drippingly polite tone and say "Why, English of course. What do you speak here?" ;)

The French one is interesting, because we do speak it, but usually only until you're done with your GCSEs. Not sure if that counts though.

I got to be multi lingual () at work last week, had guests from Germany, Netherlands and France all in one day. They always get a big kick out of me attempting to speak their languages, but it does please them, that I try.

Exactly, we're all pleased that you always try and speak the Queens English. ;)

I had a history teacher at school who (and I wasn't there to verify but I heard on good authority) decided in order to be understood on a trip to Berlin, he would speak English very loud in a German accent.

Doubt it worked but I'd love to have see it it

Talking about history teachers & Germans, I had a history teacher who had served as a fighter pilot in the RFC in the Great War. He taught us a certain amount of history, but mainly filled the allotted time with anecdotes about his past life. One was that in performing a loop in a plane with an open cockpit, he'd forgotten to strap himself in, so fell out and luckilly fell back into the cockpit at the bottom of the loop.. carried on flying and no doubt shot down a Boche. We all believed this story.
