Why should I really bother to understand them? They'll never happen here. No 18 wheeler with a great big long trailer in tow would be able to navigate them and if it tried to just piss off every driver for the next half mile behind it. ....

Well luckily for the rest of the US, we don't have those "18-wheelers with great big long trailers" that would never be able to negotiate our roundabouts.
I have passed through Miss. Stayed in Natchez a couple of nights. Lots of Dollar Stores, Thrift Stores and gas station snack outlets so I understand your response very well  |

I'll just say that whatever the shortcomings of US and Canadian toilet paper are public toilets at least provide bum gaskets, something I haven't seen in other parts of the world.

My name for those large round tissues with holes in the center that you place on toilet seats. They even double up for face and hand wipes when the damned paper towel dispensers are empty
Toilet seat covers are a brownie point for the US and Canada. |

Sign on toll road in California. "No charge weekends and holidays" That should be pretty simple to understand
The California toll roads I am familiar with in the San Diego area have 24/7 tolls, but the tolls are easily avoided. The South Bay Expressway is tolled but there are free alternatives via other freeways and surface streets. I-15 express lanes have a toll but the following are exempt and can use the lanes free of charge. "Carpoolers, vanpoolers, public transit vehicles, motorcyclists and those driving permitted clean air vehicles can use the lanes for free." Really only ones who have to pay the express lane tolls on I-15 are solo drivers who can pay 50 cents to 8 dollars depending on distance traveled to avoid congestion. Can't say about the rest of Canada but toilet seat covers are a rare find in BC public toilets, but go into WA state and nearly every single public toilet has them. |

I don't like the idea of a padded toilet seat. The padding is probably porous so god knows what it absorbs.

Re: Pet Peeves?
If a toilet seat 'looks' clean and is dry why would you bother with the paper thing? What does it matter if the skin around your bum touches germs? What do you do with that bit of skin that warrants it being kept germ free?

The paper "thing" is probably unnecessary, but then again so is a car seat belt. In around 450,000 miles as a driver (and probably another 100,000 as a passenger) I have never once needed the protection of a seat belt, and yet I strap myself in every time I get into a car, and I always have. When a paper thing is available I always use one. I haven't yet got around to buying a supply of paper things, but I have been meaning to do so. |
