Asshats who leave their dog in the yard on 4th July while they go and watch the town fireworks display 3/4 of a mile away.

Of course same large, large asshats have never been seen walking the dog either but that's a year round peeve of mine.

Take your overflowing cart to a regular cashier attended lane and leave the self check lanes for those of us who want to get the hell out of the shops in a reasonable amount of time.

This. I can get through self scan at Lowes, Walmart, or either of our local groceries with one or two items and I hardly stop walking. Skip the <Start> button, scan your item (s), swipe your card while the computer is asking for your method of payment, and bingo! It just takes a few seconds.

That's the only time I use the self scan lanes - when I only have a few things. Even when using the ones with the conveyor belt, rather than the ones with just the bags on the hangers.

If I have to bag more than maybe 3 or 4 bags worth of things, I'll just go through the normal lanes, because there's nothing more annoying than finishing up my bagging and the arsetwat behind me starts sending their bloody items down, getting in my way.
