Is it fashionable to use lots of pillows when making the bed now? My wife uses thirteen. One is sufficient for me, two is a luxury.

Where am I meant to put them all? I just want to get into bed. ....

All in, I think we have twelve or thirteen, when all we need is four, two to use and two in decorative covers that match the duvet cover to put on top when we make the bed. ..... I find that in most hotels I stay in, I have to remove enough pillows for the entire floor before I can clear enough space to sleep.

Which reminds, back to the thread topic: no, I don't want "turn-down service!" :frown:

I've been turned down so many times it really pisses me off that someone's turned this into a "service".

Maybe this is a Californian thing, but ooooverly pretentious requirements on the simplest of things.

Glass of water.

Is organic? With the essence of coconut? Has it passed through the bladder of a chilean bonobo? Do you serve it with faberge egg shavings on the side? Etc. etc.

Waiters who bring a glass of water even though you already ordered a different drink. I ordered a beer (Sam Adams) with my ribs last Saturday, so the waiter brings me a glass of water first! (Which when talking to Mrs P about, I refered to a "a Budweiser"). ..... I bought the frickin' beer because I wanted a drink. If I drink all the beer I will order another beer! :frown:

We only have two pillows. This surplus to requirements pillow craze is for the bourgeoisie.

Was it the same waiter who took your drink order, or was it a bus boy? I know when we eat in those 'family restaurant' type places, it's pretty common practice for a bus boy to deposit a glass of water for each person at the table, irrespective of what actual drink orders have been/will be placed.

It's one thing on a bed but it's worse when you're visiting someone and their sofa has seven million of the bloody things on it, so you have to rearrange the whole thing just to sit down.

No, it was the waiter. It was about 2.30pm, and so pretty quiet, with no bus boy evident. ..... I know they are trained to bring water, so I wasn't rude about it, but it is definitely a peeve of mine.

Usually it isn't the person who takes your drink order who brings it, which is kind of weird. I suppose he was on auto pilot or something.

Before I was pregnant I just had 3 pillows on the bed. 2 for me and 1 for Mr Bubblechog.
Then during various phases of being pregnant and needing to have my head higher and my legs elevated and back support and bump support ended up with 9 fullsize pillows in the damn bed. I'm down to 5 now but it's a daily struggle

Sounds like he was just making sure all the bases were covered so you had the ultimate experience. I hope you tipped him well:scarper:

I usually let Mrs P take care of the bill these days. She is usually fairly generous, but is adept at identifying poor service (i.e. she is easily irritated :() and isn't shy about cutting the tip to 15%.
