Long ago and far away in Falls Church, VA, I was in a pharmacy. The pharmacist, wanted to charge me $1000+ for a prescription instead of the usual $20.
I said " I don't understand!", meaning " Explain why the meds cost so much",
whereupon she started repeating herself slowly and loudly to me as if I was senile.
Cue the line I'd been saving up - " I understand English, I am English!"

She didn't think you weren't English, she just thought you were English and senile.

Pet peeves - people not finishing a story. Why did she want to charge you $1,000?

Because her insurance probably decided it wasn't a preferred drug on their list and instead of charging the co-pay price the pharmacy wanted to charge the stupid over the top drug company price of millions of dollars...
