Where are you getting your QM2 prices, OP? You can get them for £300 and less.

A few weeks ago I looked at transatlantic prices for this month...the cheapest cabins were around that price (£300). Cunard have obviously sold most of the cabins as the prices are much higher now.

Well that's obvious. Looking st prices for this month (July - busy target season) and the cheapest prices have gone. But the OP is going in low season and is booking many months in advance. He should be getting a better fare than he has mentioned here.

Totally off topic but I'd love to travel on a cargo ship. Don't know why, it just appeals to me in a way that cruising doesn't

We're talking about the same Cunard QM2 right? heh

If I do a search on the cunard website for Transatlantic cruises, this is what it shows me:

December 15th:
From £1,099 per person inc. flights

The cheapest I can get it for, for a single person, is -
Standard inside room - £1748

That close to Christmas I'm not surprised the prices are high, same as airline travel, thats the height of the season, usually approx 10th December - 14th January

I think it's also because the prices are vastly different between the .com site and the UK one
I notice the .com prices are about half of those on the uk site, which is annoying.
I'm not sure if I can book via the .com site, as it does ask for a US based address

The reason I Wanted to go over in December is for visiting family at new years/christmas time, but also for a wedding on January 6th.

Try Imagine Cruising...they usually have great Cunard/fly/hotel deals. My sister always uses them. Don't understand about the UK vs US pricing. My sis usually pays around the same price for cruise/flight/hotel with Imagine as we pay for the cruise.

I would take a chance and wait until nearer the time...if there are lots of empty cabins the prices will tumble. You will have to be prepared to fly if they are fully booked.

Thanks Jerseygirl, I'll take a look
Yea I did ponder leaving it till the last minute, but then I might miss the lower priced flights
Right now a business class return flight to Tampa from London is around £1500, which is "cheap", in a week or two the price doubles, then after a month or more, it'll drop back down again.
I get a bit paranoid leaving it too late heh

I was annoyed because mid January I dithered and missed out on a $1,400 balcony cabin on the QM. It was that price from about 2 weeks before the cruise to the day of sailing. I reserved the cabin 2 days before but cancelled. My sister joined the cruise in Southampton...we would have boarded in NYC...it went down the east coast...through the Panama Canal...north to San Francisco. Think the duration was about 3 weeks. I dithered because we had done the same cruise a few months earlier...but it would have been nice to have joined my sister.
