And is why the Vatican offered it expertise and I believe financial assistance to help with the rebuild. No doubt Notre Dame (and a few other French owned buildings) would be in a better state if the Catholic Church had control of the building rather than the penny pinching French State.

I would have thought the connection was pretty obvious really.

It is the catholic heart of Paris and possibly France. It is a historic treasure trove of catholic history. The catholic church is oozing money. It seems unlikely that the French state would have turned down a contribution.

Seems the Catholic Church has offered help and of course they have many buildings they own to maintain.
