"Thats way too big for the room"

Is what i get from the wife whenever i say i want to get a bigger and better TV? Bedroom TV, family room TV anything i want is just way too big.

How is it really possible for a TV to be too big for a room

wel..... this house we moved into in February had a really nice white painted wood 'built in' in the lounge. Trouble was our less then 6 months old smart tv was about 2 inches too wide to fit in. I suggested we use that TV elsewhere and buy a new one the next size down . Husband took umbrage and spent the weekend 'altering the wood built in, and painting it up - so that a side slide drawer (a tall side drawer specifically for DVDs) came out and it became wide enough for the bigger tv.

so technically it was TOO large lol!

I think UHD screens are pointless until broadcast signals for them become readily available. Currently people buying into UHD are purchasing buggy first-gen TV's. I'd have saved the money and found a Panasonic Plasma to tide me over until 4k signals become mainstream.

Our next TV is going to involve me blocking off a doorway so that the wall behind it is wide enough.

You don't need to even do that. Simply purchase one in the US, then register it to your UK address.

As usual you are talking crap. The TVs upscale and convert an HD picture to UHD. I can see the difference between a plasma HD and our UHD. I still have the old plasma TV and can compare. While not as good as a generic program filmed in 4K (House of Cards was filmed in 4K) the upscaling comes dam close.

They can't make UHD plasma TVs, and I think nearly all have stopped making HD ones altogether.

You realise that after 2 years they'll be some combination of obsolete and cheap as dirt.

I have never paid for an extended warranty on an appliance, and I've never had one fail during what would have been the extended warranty period. I had a fridge fail after 5½ years, and I would have been as sick as a parrot if I'd paid for the five year extended warranty. As it is I am already several thousand dollars ahead because I do not buy useless warranties, and I have no intention of starting buying them now or in the future.

There was a headline (business) news story in the UK back in the 1990's when it was announced by Dixon's that one year they had made 130% of their profit on extended warranties! ...... IOW they had lost money selling electronics and appliances, but recouped their losses and made a tidy profit sharing selling the warranties.

I used to live in a very hard water area in the UK, made sense for washing machines, but generally I agree.
