Workers in a cherry picker used an 'extended tool' to whack the cat on the head until it got peed off, climbed down and made a quick exit. Is it standard practice to clobber kitty on the bonce until it retreats or is that just Florida style cat control?

My reaction was the same as yours when it first hit the news, this story is far more complex than just 'hippy dippy non-chemo parents'. I'm not an anti-vaxxer type but I am going to reserve judgement... for the moment.

Vaguely relevant... My wife (aged 78) has lung cancer, diagnosed two years ago, and refuses to go through the hell of chemo that destroyed her sister's last years. Instead, she is on a cannabis THC/CDB oil-mixture, prescribed by a doctor here in the Cayman Islands and imported from Canada. To be fair, we don't know what's happening inside her, because she won't allow any biopsies. But she is absolutely free of pain, which is her main concern - and mine, and presumably that child's parents'.

The kid had already had several rounds of chemo (not enough to sate the doctors wallet?), mother works ( worked?) in healthcare and has a much older kid who was on the receiving end of medical malpractice, hardly surprising the parents were looking outside the realms of US wealthcare.

And today we have a doozy - Florida at its very best, .... or worst. :unsure:Body of Florida woman missing for nearly six years discovered inside freezer at scrap metal warehouse.

The report includes thi fascinating titbit: "It wasn’t immediately clear if Escarzaga played a role in Lacey’s death or whether the two knew each other." .... So it is apparently possible that she broke into his home and hid in his freezer, where she unfortunately met her demise, and he didn't notice for six years that there was a body in his freezer???

And so it starts... What the article hints at but doesn't make clear is that any teachers not having their contracts renewed had to have been informed by the end of April.

What the journalist fails to mention is that the state attracts people from all over the US, the sensible ones bring enough money/wisdom with them so that they can get back out when their two weeks/six months/reality check arrives - what's left is the dross from all over the US stuck here because of the poverty and mental health issues the author mentions. He also fails to mention that having one's brain fried daily with a hefty dose of sun and margaritas (or Bud lite) and then stewed in high humidity tends to make one doo-lally, the longer the summer the crazier the nutjob.
