Back when I was a student, I lodged with a family, and their eldest son, who had finished uni and moved out, was coming over on the weekend to show off his "new" (used) car.

I think it was supposed to be a surprise, so all he told his parents was the colour, that it was metallic green. His mother told me this, and I replied that I thought he had bought a BMW. He showed up in a 5 series BMW.

I seem to have wandered off piste and strayed into unmarked territory....

This was our car when I was little, or pretty damn close. I used to be sat on the fold-down armrest on the front seat for a better view

My brother had the same sort of idea. He bought an ancient and beloved Jowett Javelin in the late 60s. The exhaust leaked into the passenger area and we travelled everywhere with the windows down. Fortunately the engine gave up and it was scrapped.
