Amazing.
My cousins are stuck in Liverpool trying to fly home to Barcelona. Funnily enough she works are the airport in Barcelona and can't get back to work tomorrow.
I hope it improves soon.

My parents were on their way back from Australia to Belfast, after a 24 hour flight they arrived in Heathrow and are now stuck their. They've been told it could be Saturday before they get a flight home

DH was to get a flight back here from LHR tomorrow, but has put it back until Saturday. I don't know if that flight will be cancelled. Hope not, but what can you do.

In 1989 all four engines of a KLM 747-400 flamed out when the pilot unknowingly flew through volcanic ash.

I knew that story. My son has a thing for airliner incidents.
Anyway, I hope Gordon Brown is taxing the volcano and Iceland for all the climate damage. Oh noes! ZOMG!!
That and other 3,000 undersea volcanoes killing the environment! Please! Won't somebody think of the environment!!?!
My bad. I thought you had linked to British Airways Flight 9 which lost all four engines to ash. And then got them back.

One of the news articles says that this could be problematic for 6 months or so after it's finished erupting and last time it erupted it didn't stop for 12 months. That would really suck. My mum is supposed to be visiting in a couple of weeks, hope it's not that big of an issue then.

The cloud of volcanic ash continues to cover much of the UK. Following a review of the latest Met Office information, NATS advises that restrictions will remain in place in UK controlled airspace until 1300 (UK time) tomorrow, Friday 16 April, at the earliest.
However, flights from Northern Ireland and the Western Isles of Scotland to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick may be allowed in the period from 0100 (UK time) to 1300 (UK time) tomorrow subject to individual co-ordination. North Atlantic traffic to and from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick and Belfast may also be allowed in the period.
We will review further Met Office information and at 0230 (UK time) tomorrow we will advise the arrangements that will be in place through to 1800 (UK time) tomorrow. However be aware that the situation cannot be said to be improving with any certainty as the forecast affected area appears to be closing in from east to west. We continue to work closely with airports, airlines, and the rest of Europe to understand and mitigate the implications of the volcanic eruption.

We are due to fly out to Manchester next week I did see on the British news that some insurance companies still haven't made a decision on whether to pay out in these circumstances.

What a mess.
My Mom is spending the day entertaining relatives who should have flow home on wednesday. She's up to four now, goodness knows how many more decided to travel to UK this week. She's running out of beds
