Working near Bishopsgate I wish I had gone to the BofE museum. Has anyone on here been? One of those things I always intended to do but never did. I did buy too many ties from the tie shop on Threadneedle.

Don't say mean things about Boiler! He is one of BE's gems, a breath of fresh air, and an all-too-rare voice of reason.

All this while I was thinking that Bishopsgate was a video game.

Bishopsgate was no Watergate/Emailgate or any other gate

Bishopsgate was one of the most powerful bombs the IRA ever exploded on the UK mainland - a dump truck full of fertilizer, that blew a crater 25ft deep in the road. The explosion took place on a relatively wide stretch of road, but had been intended for Old Broad St, just around the corner, which is much narrower and would likely have created an even more devastating explosion. A police officer saw the truck being parked on Old Broad St and told the driver to move it, so he moved it around the corner on to Bishopsgate.

It also completely flattening the only church in the world dedicated to St Ethelberger, which had been standing there for close to 1,000 years!

That was the target on Old Broad St, and the eventual location was "around the back" of it on Bishopsgate, where a Midland Bank (pre HSBC, I think) building took the brunt of the explosion.

It seems reminiscent of the Oklahoma bombing in the US.
