I'm not quite taking this all in. You can be 7 miles in one direction and it just looks like a wet windy day and then suddenly it becomes a flooded destruction zone.

We are leaving the comfort of our friends house tonight. They are over crowded now as they have family who have been evacuated from Fort Bend. Another friend has offered us the use of their camper so we are going to become pikeys for a while.

Not waking up from this bad dream yet...
Lousy situation. No two ways about it.

And for everyone who has suffered heavy losses.

Sometimes it seems very hard to get ahead, but you do have each other and you will be ok.

Hello guys, Nicky alerted me to this thread. As others have said it's hard to find words which don't sound trite in the face of such devastation. Much love xxx

I know we are all hoping it is over soon and the long hard work of rebuilding can begin. I cannot bring myself to think of how many more dead they will find..while hoping against hope that the answer is none.

slightly off to the side on this topic...
the french consulate in Houston have been very pro-active in getting information out to any french nationals in the area. They are currently asking for anyone with space in their homes to let them know on FB. There's been a huge response and many of us in Austin have offered as well.
The British Consulate. Not much at all. Consulate is closed.

The others weren't because they said they already had planned to go to ours. The end of our street looks like a disaster movie. It's the staging post for the national guard where the boats are coming to. Mr Weeze was helping for a bit but they had so many volunteers that at this point there's nothing else to be done unless you have a boat. There is a steady steam of boats and helicopters coming and going. We are about 5 miles away from our house and it's like a different world. The streets are rainy day wet, the roads aren't flooded at all. Hard to believe.
yes we are north of dallas so not directly impacted but all the locals are driving their boats down to the affected areas to offer them for searches. people really do care and want to help.

This is really terrible, I have heard that many, many people don't have flood insurance or were unable to buy flood insurance. Is there a low cost crowd funding site like https://www.youcaring.com/ been setup? I hate giving money through gofundme who take a minimum of 5%

This morning things got a bit hairy with water under the fence backing up to the lake and creeping up our front path and driveway. No sleep last night for worrying. By this afternoon levels were starting to go down and I think we may be past the worst at our home. We still can't get out of our neighbouhood (there are airboats going up and down the main road so I don't think we should be out there) but maybe tomorrow or Thursday. We still have plenty of supplies so I'm not in a rush to get anything and would rather leave whatever is available for those in need. As well as SM I have another friend just a few short miles away who's home is under 10" of water. Thank you for thinking of us, it really does mean a lot to hear a few kind words here or on facebook, especially as expats as we can feel a bit isolated and cut off from family and friends.

This may be difficult for some, but lawyers are recommending making insurance claims before Friday if possible due to legislation changes.

We are in the UK and were watching our place on the cameras, they went off a couple of nights ago so I guessed we lost power. Keeping in contact with friends and following FB we found out last night we are flooded We are in a townhouse with only garage and utility and storage on ground floor so hopefully not too bad. Apparently neighbours were rescued by boat so must be fairly deep.

We'll have to fly back next week when the airport re-opens to see what's happened and start sorting stuff out.

We're much more fortunate than others so shouldn't moan

Can't really wrap my head around what this is going to mean for so many around the city. People have lost everything bar the clothes on their backs, and it's going to take months and years to recover.
Best wishes to all my fellow houstonians, locals and expats alike!
