OK, now someone must know. The DH talks about something VERY like Dippin Stix that they used to have in the UK when HE was a kid (olden days). Darnit, he's gone out right now; will have to ask again later. Remember how they'd nearly make your tongue raw? mmmmm |

I loved those.. I hope they haven't gone away. Yum! OK, now someone must know. The DH talks about something VERY like Dippin Stix that they used to have in the UK when HE was a kid (olden days). And they come in very light pastel colors, like little disc shaped things, stacked in a cellophane wrapper. Right? Makes the spit start in the back of your mouth. :) We had giant Pixy Stix here. Plastic tube with stripes and they were probably a yard long. The end of the tube was folded over with a big old staple in it to keep it shut. ~SG |

I used to eat Cap'n Crunch cereal raw just for the sugar buzz. Then my first ever business was a natural food store. Kids. sheesh.

We ARE of a generation, you and I. All the same goodies. You probably used to get them at the softball games too. And the Short Stop. That was our little 7-11 type store with the BEST candy. :)

I have a vague memory of those... you were probably a wee babe if that, :) I did find this- Fizzies were made in grape, cherry, orange, punch, berry, lemon-lime, and root beer flavors and 8 tablets cost 19 cents. Unfortunately Fizzies contained the sugar substitute cyclamate. In 1968 the FDA banned the use of cyclamates citing research showing that cyclamates caused cancer in laboratory animals and the company went out of business. |

Re: Candy Corn
Candy corn is really good , to the poster who thought it tasted like wax ..i had that experience too but found that only Brachs candy corn is the stuff , the other brand did indeed have wax listed as an ingredient.
The poster who prefered the brown edged candy corn , they call that indian corn and its supposed to taste of chocolate..it comes in Autumn mix bag of candy corn. And yep the mellowcreme pumpkins are still available and can anybody tell me if they taste different than the candy corn cos i think they do...im told im wrong but still. |

Oh I miss those days! My Grandad used to bring my sister and I a packet each whenever he visited and we would spend the rest of the afternoon engaged in the following activites:
- open packet - decide she's got more than me - decide she's got better colours than me - steal sister's sweets - study the colour and letter on the plastic cap - try to chew the plastic caps instead of the sweets - throw the tubes and caps at sister - stamp on tubes to expel caps halfway across the room at Grandad - have tubes, caps and remaining sweets taken away Happy days... happy days... |

so - if you have kids then on average what you spend comes back in your own kids' pumpkins.
People who don't have kids are either generous or just generally lose out ? |

Depends how fast they can run from door to door.
Some smart parents send the kids out the night before to some other subdivision/town that allows early trick or treating. They load up on stuff, and the crap they don't like they give to the parents who distribute the next day to visiting kids. Then you get a rep as the 'house with the candy that sucks' which leads to fewer visitors next year. |
