Re: BritBox
Lived without it for some months now so will try to keep it that way.

Re: BritBox
Not a bad price but I can't see what this would offer me over and above iPlayer/ITVPlayer/4OD/Demand5 + TunnelBear.

*Doesn't mean iPlayer will be leaving my TV any time soon As an aside, 40D... Worst website ever?.. Must be running close to first prize. |

Doesn't offer anything (much) yet, anyway. But I always said I would support 'em* if they gave it a try, and so I will.

If they offered all 4 channels with decent speeds I'd support them too, even if it were slightly more expensive than my current setup. But as it stands I can't lose my 'Neighbours' and 'Home & Away' |
Re: BritBox
Is this BritBox just a website, or does it have an app and/or available on Xboxs and Playstations etc?

At launch, BritBox will roll out across the web (www.britbox.com), Apple TV (4th Generation), Roku, iPhones, iPad, Android handsets and tablets. Chromecast is coming soon! We will be adding more platforms in the coming months. If you have a suggestion or a request, email us at [email protected]. |

The bit about the apps being there at launch is a bit premature. The Roku app they are saying on FB in the next couple of days. The iPhone app is there now. |

Re: BritBox
I just shot them an email asking two, very important for me, questions...
1. When will it be available for the Amazon Fire TV? (I have three of them, two in use!)...and... 2. Will all programming be commercial free? The price of $7/Mo seems very reasonable, so I'm hoping it's not being kept low by and ad for Tide Pods right as Ian Beale is making another foll of himself!!! |
Re: BritBox
Hoping the number of shows improves, which I'm sure it will, but it's already good value for me as it's got every episode of Porridge.
|
Re: BritBox
Watched a few episodes of Gavin and Stacey last night. Picture quality is good, better than iPlayer on the same device. Performance seemed fine.
This will live and die by what content they are able / willing to feed it, so It's really a wait-and-see thing for now. In the meantime, iPlayer (and 40d etc.) aren't going anywhere so It's no hardship to throw 6 bucks at 'em and see how they do. That's about half what I was expecting to pay so it will be interesting to see if they keep that charge, or increase it. Bonus.. Series one of The Champions is out there. I used to make my Grandad watch that when we were on holiday. :) |

I'm HOPING they put up past series of stuff. It would be nice to catch up on some of the years I have missed in some shows. |

After an introductory free trial period, BritBox is only $6.99 per month — and is available now on the web, Apple TV, iPad, iPhone and will be up shortly on Android mobile phones and tablets. Roku and Chromecast follow soon. No Amazon TV mentioned. Who uses Chromecast anymore? |

Re: BritBox
A bit disappointed in its offerings, these days the only things I'm downloading are the panel shows and First Dates
I don't really need to see yet another series of Keeping up with Appearances |

I don't really need to see yet another series of Keeping up with Appearances IF the shows don't appeal, then the service is not for you. Simple isn't it? No-one is forcing you to subscribe! That's why there's Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Acorn TV and others! |

Re: BritBox
It's like netflix was 10 years ago. The streaming option let you watch 10 year old shows, but now it has more up to date shows. I do not want to watch many things older than a year. I would like to be able to watch some BBC and ITV current affairs shows. Problem is always with copyright. For instance Mio Mao is show on channel 5 in the UK, but it is also shown on sprout in the US. Also is Britbox and BBC America related?

If you can also afford to throw 6 bucks at the beeb then so much the better. Hopefully, if this thing gets some support, content will come.If no one ponies up for it, then it cant come as much of a surprise if it fails. Most of the content on "BBC America" never screened on the BBC in the first place. As far as I know, that is (was?) some lash up with BBC Worldwide and AMC? |

Who owns BritBox? BritBox is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and ITV, the UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster. AMC Networks, which has a joint venture with BBC Worldwide for cable channel BBC AMERICA, is investing in BritBox with a non-voting minority interest. BBC Worldwide and ITV share an equal majority stake in the joint venture. Why can’t I find any of the BBC America shows on BritBox? Our goal is to unlock access to more great British programmes, adding to what you can already get on BBC America and other TV and digital outlets. |

Re: BritBox
Just checked it out. Jesus ****ing Christ! Darling Buds Of May? Are You Being Served? ****ing Boon?!?!?! I was hoping it would be a legal iPlayer/ itv player full of stuff like Have I Got News For You, Celebrity Juice, 6 Nations! I think I'm gonna stick with my dns service at the mo. Talking of which, what do people use that still work? Both UNOtelly and Overplay stopped working for me.
