What worries me more than mass suicides is that one of these days one of these kooks is going to be disappointed that the predictions never work out and will "make sure" something happens.

Hmmm, a 'self fulfilling prophecy' if you will.

Interesting . . .

So while the world itself will not explode and cease to exist, it will still be around on 22nd December 2012, but just not a lot of people. I don't think it even says EVERYONE will die, just quite a lot
Well, that coincides with the "first, it was a deluge or flood, this time it will be by fire" thing. Coincidence, probably.

But can you show me a link to a literal translation where it says people are going to die? I don't claim to be an expert, but I have listened to a few people interviewed on the radio who are purportedly experts in the field, and
none of them share this cataclysmic interpretation.

I suppose we have the pole shift too, and the Age of Aquarius, and Star Children, or whatever they're called.

Scholars from various disciplines have dismissed the idea of such cataclysmic events occurring in 2012. Mainstream Mayanist scholars state that predictions of impending doom are not found in any of the existing classic Maya accounts, and that the idea that the Long Count calendar "ends" in 2012 misrepresents Maya history.[3][5] The modern Maya do not consider the date significant, and the classical sources on the subject are scarce and contradictory.[6] Astronomers and other scientists have rejected the apocalyptic forecasts as pseudoscience, stating that the anticipated events are contradicted by simple astronomical observations.[7]

Hmmmm - proof? Well unfortunately I find myself a product of propogating Internet legends - i.e. I have no proof but love to tell people what I've heard. I am actually basing what I read on a book called "The Mayan Prophecies" - and it specifically stated that an end of the cycle was a period of renewal for the Earth - which the author probably interpreted as "cataclysmic".

As always, yes.

This whole thing has made me laugh - first he got it wrong in 1994, now he says he's definitely right this time. Looking into the 'Biblical proof' he supposedly has creates holes as well. Firstly, he's assuming the date of the cricifixion to be 33AD. Incorrect, he was 33 years old at the time, putting the actual date at around 27AD, given the best guess as to the actual year of birth that many people agree on.

The rest is just pure numerology and straw grasping.

Of course, it also states in that very book that 'no-one knows the hour' et cetera, so that tends to disagree with people telling us when the second coming is, doesn't it?

2012 is bullcrap as well. The Mayans prophesied a 'dawn of a new age' in 2,000 years but couldn't foresee the Spaniards coming to wipe them out? Give me a break

If pets aren't allowed I don't want to be chosen! It wouldn't be Heaven to me without all my pets past and present.

Hey, I'm not knocking you. I used to love listening to Art Bell on Coast to Coast, and so I am familiar - not an expert - with a lot of this stuff.
Way back in Blighty, I was a regular Fortean Times reader. Hell, when I was kid, I remember buying 'The Unexplained', where it had a cheap record stapled to the cover. Playing this scratchy gem unleashed voices of the dead, apparently.

What's cool is there's a nice overlap between Nibiru, Sumeria, Mayan Prophecies etc. Check out a book called "The Gods of Eden" by William Bramley.
It's got freemasonry, creation legends explained, Annunaki/Nefilim, Illuminati, Rosicrucianism, central banks, aliens, planet X/Nibiru, Tower of Babel, JFK, satanism - all conveniently tied together.

Amen to that. But I bet you it's a cracking read - I love conspiracy theories - many moons ago I used to even believe some because evidence on one side seemed irrefutable - but then there is NEVER any conclusive proof and we all go on our happy ignorant way.

Evidence can always be made to sound irrefutable when it is delivered by the right person. I can understand sometimes how people could be convinced from time to time.

Conspiracy theories are good for a laugh and all that, but I've not seen one yet that comes even close to being plausable.
