My daughter has just booked a return in August for $570. Bargain. From Austin direct to LGW. BA would be $1300.

At that price, she could buy clothes and leave them at LGW and still be ahead.

That's great. So convenient too!

I'm signed up to Google flight alerts, some fantastic deals for us for a round trip from Denver to LGW keep finding their way into my inbox.

Wasn't planning on going back again this year but may have to if prices stay this good!

Do you get a small adrenaline rush each time you read the price? For me, it's almost like an addiction.

We were only going to be in Europe once this year. Then when I realized that I could go for a second time, with just our eight year old daughter, I thought...what the heck, let's do it.

And now my husband is saying that he would love for us to join him when he's in Paris for a conference in July. I'm not sure that trip will actually happen for the rest of us....but the fact that we are even discussing three return trips as a family/partial family is unheard of for us.

Going to be going from MCO - LGW in a couple of weeks using Norwegian. Taking my 6 year old son with me. Cost $1200 for both of us but if we'd have booked earlier I suspect we could have got it cheaper.

I had no complaints last year when I flew with them apart from the arrival time back at MCO - around 8pm meant the number of staff at border patrol was at it's absolute minimum and it took 2 hours to get through that line, more an Orlando airport problem than a Norwegian Air problem.

That's the only real difference for us flying out of Denver into LGW. British Airways flight leaves around 7pm so you get a pretty good chance of getting some sleep. Norwegian flight leaves at 2pm so it's essentially a red-eye. Only complaint I have but I'll still use Norwegian over BA due to the price.

Yes, I agree that the price difference between the two means that it is worth making some small sacrifices. I will happily forego a few hours sleep and inconvenience if I can save several hundred (or more) dollars.

Norwegian have now changed our flights twice since booking, first was a 10 minute change on return flight but latest change is 6 hours difference, we were scheduled to fly out of ORD at 15:15 new time is 21:30. Fingers crossed they don't change it again our tickets were great value for money but having precious vacation time stolen is leaving a bad taste.

I would be wary flying this airline. They are burning through cash and cannot sustain this long term. They have been growing too fast.

Buy with a credit card.

I wonder if they have fuel reserves (not necessary physical but locked-in prices). There used to be an economy airline that flew from LGW to HKG called Oasis. They were great (and my only flight upstairs on a 747) but too low fares and soaring fuel prices killed them off. A friend of mine was outbound to HKG when the cabin crew announced mid-flight that the airline had ceased to operate, that they had no jobs, and the passengers would have to find their own way back to the UK.

I was reading the other week that they have over ordered 787s from Boeing and are reaching a point where they will have more aircraft than they have routes to operate them on. Or more bluntly their seat capacity will exceed requirements and they will have to put aircraft into storage.

Pretty difficult and unusual to do otherwise these days.

That can't be good.

I have been reading about a lot of schedule changes and missing takeoff slots so long waits on the runway for takeoff. Hard to say how much these predominate.

Looking for cheap(er) ways to get my son to and from uni in the UK, starting in September, and myself with him in September to drop him off and make sure he has what he needs there (stuff for his halls room, etc.) The prices are very attractive, but I do worry that it will all go up in smoke at precisely the wrong moment.

Visa debit/Mastercard debit, pre-paid Visa/MC is what I was thinking of, when those are used you typically don't have the same protections as using an actual credit card.

Don't know anything about pre-paid cards, but US debit cards I'm aware of offer the same protections for things like a merchant bankruptcy. But... it's certainly true that it's a pain in the ass in that the money has instantly disappeared out of your account and only comes back once the card issuer issues a refund.

Some info on Norwegian's financials:

FT is behind a paywall.

Is Norwegian about to go belly up?

Hmm, ok I guess they give a number of free articles a month... I'm certainly not a subscriber.

Opinions vary. There seems to be a consensus that they need to reduce costs a lot. But most think a bankruptcy unlikely given the assets they own and the ability to lease modern fuel efficient aircraft if needed.

I see they are about to start flights from the UK to Canada this summer.
