Anyone used Norwegian Air?

I did a bit of a search but couldn't find much on this airline.

We have a wedding to go to in July for someone I've known since I was 12 years old, so highly obligated, but I winced at typical flight prices for a Summer trip to Europe. Plus we don't have much vacation to use, so it's a very quick trip.

That quick trip aspect means very little necessary luggage, which fitted into Norwegian Airlines very well!

We're going Boston > Gatwick.

Any first hand experience or tips (given we have the tickets!) would be appreciated.

I flew Norwegian last year from Orlando to Gatwick. Was a shiny new Dreamliner. Cattle-class so nothing special but was cheap.

I flew back on WestJet via Toronto which was a pain in comparison.

I would fly Norwegian again.

Yep, I flew exact same route from Boston to Gatwick last June

Plane was new, comfortable, you get what you pay for. I rate them. if you don't want to end up in the middle, i'd recommend paying to reserve a seat.

the on board food/drink wasn't cheap, but it never is. Cool system where you order your food/drink on touch screen, swipe your card and someone brings it out.

I'd definitely fly Norwegian again

I flew JFK - LGW a couple of months ago. Again, it was a shiney new dreamliner. I paid extra for the meal and seat choice (meal not worth it, but i was able to get an exit row seat for no additional cost). Long queue to check in at JFK, but no queue if you just had hand luggage. I would happily fly with them again.

PS a colleague is looking to fly New York to London beginning June, and Virgin/Delta are cheaper than Norwegian

I immigrated last December LGW-LAS on Norwegian and I had flown to LAS and LAX with them before a few times. You get what you pay for. When I came to visit The Husband and couldn't get an employee ticket I flew Norwegian with a carry-on only and took my own food onto the plane. Planes are always new and all of my flights with them have been on time. What more could you want?

Yes, I flew this route last July. Pretty much brand new 787. I thought it was fine. The only issue I had was that checkin in Oakland too forever as there was a flight leaving for Stockholm a little earlier and they had too few desks to cater for the volume of passengers checking in. I did buy the checked bag/food/seat reservation package in advance. Also be aware that BA now fly this route as well. Not a 787, but they may work out cheaper after you throw in all the extras Norwegian charge you for, although BA now charge you for advance seat reservations as well. They had an amazing introductory offer when the service was announced, but I see fares are higher now.

Bit late to this, but loads of Brits were recently talking about this on the Boston Brits FB group.

Mostly sounded good. Most seemed to say it was better to eat a meal at airport before flying and watch out for baggage as they're quite strict on the weight.

Thanks for the tips! Yes, on the baggage, I noticed they had max weights on hand luggage. Don't think I've ever had that weighed. And anything over 10 kilos costs more.

Sound like we'll be packing food too!

Again, thank you all!

Re: Anyone used Norwegian Air?

We're flying with Norwegian next week. Between us, we have a bunch of different and multiple citizenships. (UK, US, Oz)

When completing the passport documentation (etc), online it seems that each person can only record the details of one passport. I need the US and the UK info to be included.

Has anyone encountered this issue and have a work-around or do I need to contact the airline directly? (I hate doing that!)

Thanks

I have a British passport and a US passport and flew with Norwegian last July from Stewart-Newburgh (60 miles from New York City) to Edinburgh and returning from Belfast International to Stewart-Newburgh.

Anyone holding a US passport must leave and re-enter the USA with their American passport, so I just used the info on that passport for Norwegian’s website. When I arrived in Edinburgh I just used my British passport at the e-gate.

I’m not sure why you need the UK info to be input? If for example, one of your party has a non-US passport such as an Australian one, use that number and list the Green card info as required (or visa info)

Re: Anyone used Norwegian Air?

Thanks.

Other airlines I have flown have let me list all individuals' multiple passports/citizenships and not simply a single one.

Norwegian Air has a prompt stating that we must apply for ETSA/Visa waiver/whatever the UK entrance electronic documentation is called.

Since my question above, I spoke to a friend who has flown with them recently, was in a similar situation, and had no issues as she and her family simply showed the relevant passports at check in.

I'll simply do what I/we have always done....take all travel docs and show them as above.

(Years ago United were very rude to me regarding a round trip on my UK passport with H4 visa. I flew London to California, spent a week there, then flew to Oz for a week. There were multiple discussions with various managers etc at the London check-in counter as I didn't have an ETSA and the first leg of the journey wasn't on my Oz PP. I think it created more work for them.)
