The "Great" in Great Britain has nothing to do with supremacy in power, influence etc.....it simply means that Great Britain as an island is larger in physical size than Brittany in France - Bretagne as opposed to Grande Bretagne. Britannia as the Romans called these islands (apart from Ireland). The reasons are historical, and as I say absolutely zilch to do with greatness in the sense of status and power politically or militarily or whatever.

Well, after watching the Sarah Palin 'interview' I would say it's not a question of "Is America the greatest country in the world?" but "Who's going to press the big red button first? McCain or Caribou Barbie?" Scary times. Plus the fact women may lose ownership of their bodies if these chumps get in.

So right now, bad NHS, Hoodies, blah blah, I think the UK has a slight lead.

Its not the greatest country in the world .....for every positive there is a negative. In truth I'd plump for the south of France as the best place in the world to live ...but then no one would say that France is the greatest country in the world ... ok maybe Jean-Marie Le Pen...but whatever ...but here I live in central Illinois ..its no better than Wigan ..then again its no worse ..life's all about what you make it ....

Brat! I didn't know about Kendal Mint Cake - though no one in the US would likely have heard of it, so it's not off the table yet.

I read my Mom a description as that's her maiden name, she laughed and said "it doesn't sound very good".

I hope at least it's tasty?

It's a little like the chocolate covered mint patties but the mint part is harder.
