A decent scrap of bacon will get us all through anything. Calms the nerves...Add to it sausage, tomato, fried egg, toast and beans - then I don't care what country I'm in, it's the Greatest.

And don't forget to check out Italian pancetta - I don't know what they do to it, but it's a great variation on bacon. In fact, I'm ready to say Italy is the greatest country in the world, simply because they have all those tasty morsels ... pepperoni, salami, mortadella, head cheese ... yummmmm .....

It may be true that the only really civilised countries are those originally run by the Romans, but in this day and age the availability of an adequate filling for a good bacon buttie (with tea) is what really counts.
