2020 Election

Re: 2020 Election
He needs some of the progressives in order to win though, as Clinton demonstrates, if they stay home he loses. He simply isn't going to pick up enough votes on the right, IMO, to offset what he might lose in the left. Of course this just amplifies Trump attacks on him as a pawn of the left.

Without anyone ever bothering to define what "the left" is supposed to actually mean. It's a bogeyman word. There is nothing at all about Biden that is left wing in any definition of the term in any other country, but the fear has been created.
He needs the swing states, and I suspect he may well not win Wisconsin now, and Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina are shaky.

I hope I'm wrong.

At least I don't have to fuss with moving to Canada, I am already here...
For the first time since I moved to Canada there is a big push to get as many USC living in Canada to vote as possible this year, but many USC's in Canada are finding out having citizenship alone doesn't allow one to vote in the election.
Honestly I had no idea either, but if one has never resided in the US, unless they have a parent who resided in one of the 37 states that allow it, appears USC's who have not resided in the US cannot vote.
I’m an American citizen, but have never lived in the USA? Can I vote?
PERHAPS. Voting is implemented through the individual states, and there are thus variations in legislation. There is an increasing tendency to permit Americans who have never lived in the US to vote in federal elections (administered by states); this is now possible in 37 of the 50 states. Generally, you are allowed to vote in the state where at least one of your citizen-parents last resided

I wonder if this has ever been challenged in court?
Seems messed up the US requires these folks to file tax returns, possibly financial reports depending on their circumstances, requires Canadian banks to report account info to the CRA who then reports it to the IRS, but then these folks apparently can't vote, a bit messed up in my view.

That's not really true though, is it? Trump has made it clear he's talking about 'ANTIFA' and 'The Squad' with their Green New Deal and wanting to regulate how many hamburgers you can eat in a year. True or not, he is defining 'the left' as telling you what you can do with your life.
I'm concerned what the new state polls will show. COVID + rates are down from a few weeks ago, and violent protests are now taking over the news. The current issue is not one Biden can win on IMO.

And I agree on Biden. His campaign has been largely and passively counting on Trump continuing to alienate decent people. But I don't think he's winning the propaganda war.

Passive has worked well up to this point, but I don't see how it can moving forward. He needs to denounce violence on both sides - which he did do yesterday - and get out there and made himself visible. Why is he not visiting Kenosha and Portland? Ditto Kamala Harris. He also needs to go after Trump for clearly stoking this violence, which apparently he is going to do in Pittsburgh this afternoon. I think the next 10 days or so are really critical for this election.

retty strong speech from Biden this afternoon. If he can get the message out, he might have a shot, the problem is that a speech from him gets drowned out by a tweet from Trump.
'You know me, you know my story, you know my families story. Do I look like a radical socialist? REALLY?!' - I liked that line.

How to prevent armed Militia on our streets.
"Throughout the late 1960s, the militant black nationalist group used their understanding of the finer details of California’s gun laws to underscore their political statements about the subjugation of African-Americans. In 1967, 30 members of the Black Panthers protested on the steps of the California statehouse armed with .357 Magnums, 12-gauge shotguns and .45-caliber pistols and announced, “The time has come for black people to arm themselves.”
The display so frightened politicians—including California governor Ronald Reagan—that it helped to pass the Mulford Act, a state bill prohibiting the open carry of loaded firearms, along with an addendum prohibiting loaded firearms in the state Capitol. The 1967 bill took California down the path to having some of the strictest gun laws in America and helped jumpstart a surge of national gun control restrictions."

Really? Like Donald is appealing to the "middle"? Every word out of Donald's mouth is a rationalization of white supremacists, bigots, and thuggish cops. His "base" is the group of far-right-wing violent gomers who love killing people. How do you justify Donald's "middle" strategy?
I am so tired of apologists over-analyzing ever word that Biden utters, but who totally ignore the sewage coming out of Trump's mouth.
