Is it possible that Trump wins his election, but the Democrats manage to take the Senate? I mean, there’s a few races, Maine obviously, but several others too, that could go either way - even in a year that Trump manages to win because of the peculiarities of the electoral college.

Ahhhh .... it just dawned on me ... I watched 4 episodes last night; this was the opening 'one on one' interview from one of the last 'in-studio' shows. But I still can't find any reference to it! Let me do a bit of research ... she was really quite good to watch!
OK - found it; I was quite a bit back in the episodes! Rachel Bitecofer is the name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqvM8-z7THs |
Re: 2020 Election
Did anyone see the CNN interview on Thursday with Biden, Anderson Cooper and Dr Sanjay Gupta? Only seen a short clip but Biden was absolutely dreadful.

I figured that was who you were talking about, I saw the older episode with her interview. I thought maybe she had been back. She's a lot of fun to listen to but I'm not trusting anybody who says they know for sure who will win. She was accurate with the midterm projections but midterms are different than the presidential. Of course it was an unusual midterm election and she still pegged it so .... :fingerscrossed:

It's possible, but the Senate is heavily weighed towards rural states that tend to vote Republican. So even though 538's generic poll has the Democratic Party ahead 48.7 to 40.7% that doesn't necessarily translate into gaining the needed seats. Plus Doug Jones will almost certainly lose the seat in Alabama he won in a special election against a paedophile. And, of course, only a third of seats are up for grabs anyway.

I understand all this, of course, but in 2014, the Republicans apparent made a net gain of nine seats in the senate. I agree, the Alabama seat will likely be a loss for the Democrats, because of the peculiar circumstances of that special election, but there are potential gains for the Democrats since the tide was running strongly in the Republicans favour in the 2014 senate election.

Some analysis on this topic this morning - https://www.politico.com/news/2020/0...in-play-194415 Definitely looks like a long shot. Seems like my state (where I'm registered to vote, anyway) is one of the best hopes - Kelly (the astronaut and wife of former senator Giffords) is challenging McSally, who was an appointee after McCain's death.

Thanks, I’ll read that. The other three toss-up possibilities often quoted are Colorado, Maine and North Carolina.
I also think Susan Collins is going to struggle this time, her votes to acquit Trump and confirm Kavanaugh will be front and center of the campaign plus her approval rating has dropped significantly. Kansas could also be in play if Kris Kobach wins the GOP primary. |

Joe was on Morning Joe this morning, they stitched a bit together that made him a bit coherent but quite frightening, I am sure Jill knows the deal and is concerend.

Re: 2020 Election
Remember that time Joe Biden didn't know the difference between Kansas and Missouri?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxHHcHqfbPs What would happened if Biden dropped out of the presidential race after being destroyed in the debates by Donald Trump and that will happen?. Trump saying you have senile dementia, release your medical records that sort of thing and biden replying I will release my medical taxes and i will fund the best scientists at David Hopkins university in Baltimore to find a vaccine for the michelobvrius. Trump will hammer him and hammer him and break him. It will be hard to watch. |
Re: 2020 Election
It was grimly amusing to hear Collins say that the reason she voted against Donald's conviction was that she thought that Donald "had learned his lesson" in regard to conspiring with other countries. First, what does "learning a lesson" have to do with being judged on a crime Donald have already committed, and secondly, had she not been paying attention to Donald's antics for the previous three years? He is incapable of learning anything. Time for Collins to take up that full-time college teaching post at some tiny school.
