Hey! I don't interfere with your irrational hatred of Hillary so don't interfere with my rational hatred of Trump.

I thought it was Cruz?

How on earth do you make that leap based on "amorphous"?

Ahh, but I thought Cruz was your number 1 focus?

Yeah, I know. I was being deliberately obtuse #Boiler.

So, I suppose I've been avoiding this topic. After talking to myself about it, I've decided that Cruz is better than Trump. I'm not a cynical citizen. I believe that political races should be between the best of our people. Unfortunately, the best people don't always put themselves forward. I know there are strategic reasons that make Trump a better option for the Dems but I can't swallow that pill. I think he's bad and wrong and dishonest. Ted Cruz is a shithead right winger but I would trust him more with my life (and in a poetic sense, we do put our lives in the hand of the president) than I would Trump.

Indeed. How many Congressional inquiries are we up to?

I think there are two angles to this, possibly conflicting.
1) Would Trump be easier to BEAT in the general than Cruz, and
2) Would Trump be better for the country than Cruz, should one of them actually beat Hillary.

I just can't wrap my head around a good answer to these questions. I think the answer to #1 really depends on just how many 'crossover' angry white male voters will crawl out of the woodwork and vote for him. I think he'll inspire a strong negative vote, but if he also gets people to cross over, that could be a disaster. Cruz, on the other hand, is too far right to win the Independents. So perhaps, Cruz is a more PREDICTABLE opponent.

And should we be faced with either a Cruz or a Trump victory ... who will screw the country the most? Cruz, we know, will try to do all the things he said he'll do - defund PP, ban gay marriage, kill Obamacare, etc. But what will Trump REALLY do ... I honestly can't predict. I don't think he gives a stuff about gay marriage or PP, and I think he'll approach Obamacare from a strictly financial viewpoint. But really, who knows what floats around in that head. His unpredictability is the biggest concern I guess.

I think that's it in a nutshell. If you begin with the 2012 map, it's difficult to see how Cruz moves many states into the red column, whereas Trump might be able to move a few of them that Cruz would not have. Perhaps Trump has a shot at Ohio and elsewhere in the Rust Belt that Cruz does not.

On the other hand, Trump may actually galvanize enough voters in quasi-purple states with high Latino populations such as Colorado and Nevada to ensure that they remain in the blue camp.

Either way, I doubt that either of them can beat Clinton in electoral votes. She can't be expected to outperform Obama, but it's hard to see how she goes below 270. It helps that Virginia has demographically shifted so that the northern part of the state will now vote for Democrats.
