He has at least four major hurdles: The Hug, Badmouthing Romney, Bridgegate and embracing Jerry Jones, owner of the hated Cowboys (at least hated in NJ, where you have the Giants, Jets and Eagles as home favorites). The last is his biggest problem - knowing he would piss off millions of NFL fans in NJ, what was he thinking if he really wanted to run?

The NYT and other liberal news organizations will pump up his run, praise his "courage" and his articulation of the issues until he wins the nomination (he won't), then they'll suddenly headline his problems in NJ and - on cue - some Democratic District Attorney will indict him for Bridgegate in the middle of the election. We've seen this movie.

What about the hurdle nobody seems to be talking about: would America really elect a morbidly obese President?

I agree, that would be Taft.

Not PC. Why, you'd offend about 60% of the population, so if that becomes an issue, he'd get elected on the slogan to the effect that we "need" to elect the "First Morbidly Obese President in the 21st Century."

The question no one asks with Firsts, is "Why? What are his/her actual qualifications for being "Leader of the Free World" other than being the first Black-Woman (Black Woman)-Hispanic-Muslim-Gay-Lesbian-Transgender-Dwarf (sorry, Little People, The Imp)-Morbidly Obese candidate for President?

For God's sake, will America have to go through all these Firsts before we can get back to the serious business of electing Old, White, Rich, Male presidents again?

He could promise the only pork barrel he would allow would be his lunch.

Does anyone take any of the Gop candidates seriously. Poor little Bobby jindal (huh my kindle wanted to autocorrect that to Mondale) .

Who thought that an #AskBobby Jindal Twitter dialogue would be a good idea? - Salon.com

I personally don't think his appetite is relevant to his ability to lead the country, but whenever the election gets down to brass tacks leaders get elected based as much on personality/likeability these days than demonstrable experience and qualifications.

He seems to relish the opportunity, though.

Yes. It seems the touchstone for the successful candidate is the sense his handlers project that "he cares about me." Honestly, he couldn't give a rat's arse about "me," he cares only that he gets my vote.

I got my confirmation for the 2016 election, first vote is in June 2016, will have the ballot emailed on or around April 23rd......

By then probably have enough primaries to know who the candidates will be, June seems a bit late to make any sort of difference.

Rubio is getting a little tired of Obama doing all these great things for the country. Claims Obama is "Legacy shopping" by opening an embassy in Cuba. Or does that just translate as "I was hoping to take credit for that"?

I think Rubio is appalled a non Hispanic is getting himself involved.

Quote "Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has vowed to oppose the confirmation of an ambassador unless “substantive progress is made” on human rights issues that have dogged Cuba for decades."

Are we really going to start using this as the criteria? If so I guess we're going to lose a few embassies in DC

My biggest - by far - concern with Christie is his strong opposition to medical marijuana. As much as I personally support complete legalization, it doesn't bother me that much if it happens or not (I mainly want to see it decriminalized to stop mass incarceration). But medical marijuana is a real winner, and denying its effectiveness is like arguing the world is flat (something the Republicans seem fond of).

Still ... I'd rather have Christie than most of the religious / tea party crazies.
