2016 Election

I think "America would never elect a socialist" is only half the argument. The other half of the argument being that these early polls (especially the national ones) are not really giving the true picture of who is electable. Analysts then fall back on intangibles such as endorsements in which Bernie lags far behind.

There's plenty on the other side I don't like either...but she is particularly obnoxious.

I voted for Obama in the '08 primary precisely because I felt that the country was ready to accept a black president and that he would likely be more electable than another Clinton. I like Sanders a lot, but I don't feel the same way about him. As for the general election polls, I think they're essentially meaningless at this point.

It would be interesting to see Trump vs. Sanders in the general election. IMO, both are for all intents and purposes, "unelectable" (at least by American standards). One too arrogant and dogmatic, the other far too liberal. Both with near-zero experience in actual politics, particularly international politics, where I suspect neither would command any respect at all.

Bernie Sanders served in the US House of Representatives for 16 years, and has served in the US Senate for almost 10 years. I'd say being a part of the legislative branch of the United States government for over 25 years is a bit more than near-zero experience in US politics.
Trump, on the other hand, well I flushed something more fit to govern the US than him down the bog this morning.

To be fair and balanced...same probably applies to the Bush brothers.

Being Bill's wife can be construed as an obstacle as well as a benefit. After all, the Clinton haters are still with us 20 years after Bill was President. Additionally, she won New York with 55% of the vote, which means she must have garnered a considerable amount of independent and possibly Republican support. She was also re-elected with a hugely increased majority in '06.
