My guess is that Fiorina is running for vice president. (She had such a lovely time screwing up HP that she wants to bring the same business acumen to America.) Her selling point is being female, but her inability to win her home state makes her less appealing than some of the male alternatives who might have a chance of bringing some electoral votes to the table.

Ben Carson seems to be on a mission to prove that lacking a brain does not interfere with ones ability to be a brain surgeon. Oh, the irony.

This illustrates how the game is played: If someone were to comment that when Obama is asked a hardball question in an interview, and doesn't have a teleprompter in view, he filibusters because he is otherwise incoherent, incomprehensible and illogical - maybe lacking a brain - the PC police and the media would jump on that in an instant with cries of "racism!"

To say something somewhat similar about Carson is OK because he happens to be a Republican. It's so good being a Democrat.

Umm, you're the one who brought up race. I just called him an idiot because he keeps saying stupid things like:

We obviously have to create an environment that is conducive to them making money, and that means lowering that corporate tax rate and making it competitive. And if we were really smart, we would do another big stimulus. You’re saying what is he talking about. What did he just say? Well, remember that big billion dollar stimulus that we were supposed to have at the beginning of the Obama administration? Whatever happened to that?

But I know where we could get a really big stimulus, there’s two trillion dollars in offshore money, and they won’t bring it back because they tax it at thirty-five percent. What if we give them a tax holiday? And let them bring it back. Repatriate that money. Won’t cost us a dime. That’s the kind of thing we need to start thinking about.

Some simple advice for Republicans: The accusations of stupidity will decrease if you reduce your output of stupidity -- you've earned them. Don't shoot the messenger for noticing your poor grasp of facts and reality.

I agree that Carson is not a smooth politician who can mouth talking points flawlessly. Some politicians who are quite good at that minor skill have proved to be incredibly bad presidents.

As for the second Carson quote: the question of repatriating the $2 trillion of offshore profits to the benefit of the country has been discussed by a number of politicians and economists, and thinking about the right way to do that seems stupid only to stupid people. I trust you were criticizing the stumbling way he talked about it, and not the concept, which you undoubtedly endorse.

Riiight...

Let's see what Carson said about same-sex marriage:

My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman," he said. "It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society, and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality -- it doesn’t matter what they are -- they don’t get to change the definition.
Why do you think he grouped "gays" with peadophiles and "people who believe in bestiality" in that comment? Merely because he can't "mouth talking points flawlessly"? Or, just maybe, something else?

"(A) lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight—and when they come out, they're gay. So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question."

Carson: Prisons prove being gay is a choice - CNNPolitics.com

"Obamacare is really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. And it is, in a way—it is slavery in a way because it is making all of us subservient to the government."

Dr. Ben Carson Obamacare Slavery Analogy Values Voter Summit | Mediaite

If this is insincere cynical pandering, then what does that tell you about his audience?

If you don't understand that ALL politicians cynically pander to their audiences and groups they hope will support them, then you are a hopeless naif. Probably not the case.

I am neither a Carson supporter nor an apologist. Clearly, he has not yet learned to automatically spout politically correct responses to "gotcha" questions from journalists. He's a brain surgeon, he'll learn. I'm willing to bet that that black dude is a hell of a lot smarter than you, me and "GiantAxe."

This is always an interesting one. Yes, brain surgery is a highly specialized field but why the assumption that all brain surgeons are automatically geniuses? Granted, it will take more than a small amount of intelligence to perform such work, but one only needs to be smart enough to do that. Expertise outside of the field of brain surgery could be limited, depending on the person, for example.

So brain surgeon doesn't automatically equal 'really smart'. I mean, that's hardly rocket science, is it?

Brilliant. I can think of one person posting on this thread who won't get that one.

Ah, the "Palin defence"... being asked for one's views on something (by his pals at Fox News no less in the case of the same sex marriage comment I posted) is a "gotcha question". Gotcha.
