Spain is highly dependent on inbound tourism from the UK and will de everything they can (subject to EU interference) in order to maintain the status quo - they have gone on record several times to say as much. That said, if, post Brexit, the EU dictate that visas are required for long-stay/residence, then I cannot imagine the conditions for such will be any different than the present residence requirements - ie, health insurance and sufficient financial means so as not to be a burden on the state. Anything else, anything more stringent would be economic suicide.

In addition to agriculture and a number of other major exports, I'd agree Spain has a certain degree of "dependency" on tourism.

However, despite seemingly the only ones that matter (from a British perspective), Brits are not the only "tourists". In fact, there are a few more "tourists" of "foreign" nationalities, such as German, Dutch, French, Swedish, Danish, Polish, etc. Quite a few more, in fact.

Now, it's true that certain areas of Spain are dominated by British enclaves. And those areas may well suffer. We have one such place here - Magaluf - but it's only a dot on the southwest coast, and the promotion of it is already being shifted toward other nationalities. I reckon just another predictable consequence of Brexit.

Our tourists, like our leaders in Westminster, have an exaggerated idea of their own importance.

Interesting how? Freedom of movement is ending. I'm not sure why you think that is going to affect British holidaymakers taking a two week package holiday or spending a long weekend in Barcelona.

You may find you need a visa, you may need medical insurance.

Americans don't need a visa to visit Spain, therefore it seems like an alarmist stretch to suggest that, post Brexit, Britons will need a visa.

Quite, and you still need travel insurance when travelling aboard even with an EHIC card.

Could not agree more - Non-EU travellers allowed to stay up to 90 days without any problem. Medical cover may be a different issue but then there are plenty of affordable short-term and long-term travel policies available.

Never had additional european cover in 30 years of travelling through out , never needed it , EHIC is sufficient for me, my autonomo payments covered me when I was resident.

I've never had to use either; it doesn't mean it's not a good idea to have it.

It isn't visas or other immigration burdens that will be the problem. The UK hasn't ever been a schengen member, and "freedom of movement" doesn't apply.

The problem will be the declining pound, and other economic woes (increasing unemployment, lower tax collections, higher benefit costs, etc), not to mention limited flights and a general shift of European package holiday providers away from declining British tourism in favour of more lucrative customers. It just won't be as economically viable for as many people to holiday in Spain (or anywhere else, for that matter). "Staycations" are already increasing in Britain, and the nasty stuff hasn't even happened yet.

If this represents the depth of your understanding of the issues related to the EU and Brexit, it explains a good bit about the content of your posts on the subject!

Britons now and have always had to pass through passport control to enter Europe, and vice-versa. This will not change after Brexit. It may suffer a bit more stringent control (in the worst case, a visa, though unlikely), but won't change much otherwise.

The point is, that won't be what leads to the decline of Britons vacationing abroad. The increased cost (to Britons) will have a much larger impact.
