Why do you live here if you hate it so much

But this is the problem, isn't it.
Whenever someone posts about Spain, they're really only posting about the immediate area, the few square kilometres, where they live. They're not talking about the entire country - which I personally doubt anyone here has actually visited.
So when you post and say "I love Spain, because ..." and someone else posts and says "I hate Spain, because ..." neither of you are talking about the country, or it's people, or it's politics or anything except the town or village or piece of the campo where you spend your time. I wouldn't be surprised if either party (you or the complainer) moved 20km then the roles could be entirely reversed: You'd hate that new location (maybe no cheap restaurants etc., maybe all the faults the complainer disliked) and the other person would love it - for the same reasons you love where you live now.
It's not the country as a whole, or the people as a whole that posters here love or hate, it's the choice (or sheer dumb luck) about the small part of it where they happen to be.

Nice post, at last someone has got it right, just because a comment is posted about one thing does not mean that you hate the whole place and want to move back.
There are loads of things that my wife doesnt like about me, and vice versa, but just cos you dont like your hubby leaving the tiolet seat up and dirty socks on the floor, IMO it is not a reason for divorce.
If you dont like certain aspects about Spain does not mean that you hate it and should go back.
After all this is a forum where things are discussed.

After two days in a new pasture mine were always looking through the gate to the next new one rather than looking back at the old one.
I can understand people moving back to the UK for financial reasons or because they wish to return to their roots and old stamping ground after many years away.
I cant understand those who are not happy in their new location who dont try and find a one that does suit them, because IMHO Spain is possibly the most diverse country in Europe with regard to variations in climate, environment, people and just about everything else.

I think it is a thin line between debating and discussing certain aspects of spanish culture and making generalizations that all spanish this that or other is bad.

But presumibly those were people´s real impression of Spain. An impression is just that, someone´s personal take on a place. They may not agree with yours, but everyone has their different thoughts on the place, and I´m assuming what they have said is exactly what they think of the place. Not saying they are right, or you are wrong, just that people often have completely different impresions of a place. I have seen many places where zillions of Brits live in Spain, and they must have a completely different impression of the place than I do, I´d move to Outer Mongolia before living in some of them.

You must have some pretty strange sheep down there in Devon.

I agree that Spain is an extremely diverse country of which I know very little, really only the Mediterranean coast. I was brave enough to try inland once, and scarpered back to safety when my sleep was disturbed by unsilenced motos racing through the small town on a nightly basis, the mayor and his large family came round with begging bowls with daggers underneath, and I couldn’t buy a Sunday Times anywhere.

Whilst disliking some things in Spain, well actually mainly the bureaucracy and the food, I have to say that Spanish men are one of the reasons I intend to stay.
Most noticeable is that they dont age or go bald prematurely in the way that British men do so are much easier on the eye

Now you come to mention it yes.
How gratifying it is to see Spanish men wearing smart clothes when its 30 deg plus when their British counterparts resemble another race from planet conehead dressed at Oxfam

OK enuff about my preferences. I am sure there are some sexy Spanish baldies around as well.
