Do you not know what life is like under a dictatorship? Even if people did know, they wouldnt have been able to do anything about it
Sharing food is an act of communism remember, penalised by a bullet in the head

Then how come you haven't seen all the demonstrations and marches, cops with rubber bullets and rioters setting fire to bins, strikes, closures and so on, that are going on all over the country? Why do you say they are confined to Madrid? Do you really think they will just blow over when people get used to having their salaries chopped and public services slashed and realise its "for their own good"?

Methinks you spend too much time watching Spanish TV, where even nice sweet gentle junior school teachers have been known to set fire to bins, been confronted by police etc.
After a demonstration in Barcelona some time ago it was reported
Police said 29 people had been detained so far during the two-day meeting, including five in clashes with police overnight.
Among the detainees were five foreigners from Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Slovenia and Britain, a police spokesman said

I always appreciate the comments from our Spanish commentators, including those expats who have integrated more than I have, but the latest ones on this thread show what I consider an unnecessary amount of panic.
Of course there's civil unrest, there's civil unrest all over southern Europe because of the austerity measures, but for expats to start packing their bags because of it is a bit premature.
In any case, the British Navy will save us as long as we have a clear passage to Gibraltar when the time comes, where the ships will be waiting to take us home.
I can get there in six hours.
