The US/Canada/Australia/New Zealand now all demand you have a skill that can't be filled by a local person. You should be looking at areas of skill shortages and start training now otherwise unless you have getting on for a million dollars and qualify for a retirement visa they won't let you land. perhaps that is the opportunity we are looking for and should start our own business doing just that. I considered certain skill training before I came here but in the end it wasnt worth it - unless you can speak the language like a native you would become a liability rather than an asset to an employer. The UK's fluffy bunnies will fight tooth and nail to ensure the UK remains open to all and sundry - the last effort to impose skill based immigration was massively watered down. This will come to all countries, despite the cosy arrangement of the EU - remember the German doctor working as a locum who killed a patient by over prescribing ?? |

(no foreign policy is short term). It is a game, long term, and although you fob off the Vichy, it is their descendants who are pulling the strings in the background. They are the old money as well as the new money, but all with the same beliefs. Same in Germany, where they have generally kept quiet, will not make any overt moves but will keep pulling the strings in the background. When West Germany revamped their telecom system they had the foresight to ensure that they included facilities, dial codes etc etc for East Germany, that was a decade before the wall came down. Long term planning is what it is all about. OK, call it conspiracy theory, along with Diana, Kennedy, Aliens, etc etc but the start, expansion and future of Europe is not just written on a post-it on someone's monitor. The truth is out there. by the way, how did you know I had a rocking chair on my patio ?? |

Although we are both too young to remember the UK Wartime Spirit, the country wasnt broke, busted, nothing on the shelves. They had things but prices were sky high and they were under the counter. but let things deteriorate and then come back and tell me there isnt a dog-eat-dog attitude, its already there with people who want/must get to the top of heap no matter what. Everyone up here in Asturias has a family huerta back in their parents/grandparents villages. My parents in law were never hungry as children, although they didnt see a biscuit until they were a teenager :D And in fact didnt have electricity or piped water either. Choice and the quantity of meat would go down, but people would eat well. The people who went hungry 60 years ago were in Andalucia and Extramudura, they have better agricultural systems now. The problems would be in the big cities. These people would have to go back to the villages This is a question for JLFS. Given that Galicia has such fertile land, how come so many migrants to Latin American came from there? |

...and by the way, being British does make a difference. My lad is a graduate, network engineer and could maybe, just maybe get out there if he had a firm contracted job offer. My daughter is a graduate Nurse and would have no problems...they need nurses more than network engineers; that said neither fancy the US although hopefully my daughter at least will be in Canada in a couple of years. Our daughter worked the Camp America season during her gap year and thats when she decided she did not want to live there, prefers Canada. We enjoyed our time there, made good friends we are still in contact with (some are coming over for the Olympics and a euro touring holiday). |
