I'm surprised there has been no mention of wartime Britain when hardly any imported food was available.
The farmers and land girls worked all hours to boost food production, almost everyone made full use of their gardens to grow whatever food they could and quite often a few hens and a pig or two at the bottom of the garden to make sure nothing went to waste. The nation came through it with flying colours and much the same pattern continued well until into the fifties with ration books and the socialist austerity measures. Then along came the Tory govt and you've never had it so good Supermac, the brakes came of and the country reacted much the same way as Spain did after Franco, though not entirely quite so stupidly. I wonder if the present generation would have the backbone to react in a similar manner, be it expats in crisis hit Spain or desperate times in the UK ? |

Is there an optimum age for posting on an internet forum? I would say that 12 is too young and 98 is too old.
Or if you enjoyed reading Twilight (I did), then you could be either. |

Sometimes I think 80% of the posters on here are about 14;)

Or if you enjoyed reading Twilight (I did), then you could be either. Rosemary Sutcliffe - The Eagle of the Ninth Anne McCaffrey - The Dragons of Pern George R R Martin - A Song of Fire and Ice there are others of a similar ilk - historical, sci-fi/fantasy |

Business folk with a good supply of ration books or ration tokens were the haves and could barter excellent deals with them as well as get all sorts of unusual favours, say no more, from the have nots who were just on very basic rations. Come to think of it the yanks with their unlimited supplies of nylon stockings also qualified for similar favours. |

it appears that Spain is too big to bailout:eek: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/f...erts-warn.html There again they've been doing much the same ever since Spain joined the Eu and were given all those huge handouts. Maybe time to call a halt before the whole of Europe goes down the pan with them. |
