Till taught by pain,
Men really know not what good water's worth;
If you had been in Turkey or in Spain,
Or with a famish'd boat's-crew had your berth,
Or in the desert heard the camel's bell,
You'd wish yourself where Truth is--in a well.

Lord Byron.

That is enough well stories. Ed

JDR I`m afraid you cannot keep up the level of humour produced by Bil and Rugbymatt.

I`m sorry, but can I ask you guys to please please return to insulting yourselves, its more original.

If I remember correctly there where 2 prices, one for drilling through dry earth and then another for when they got to the water level. The whole thing would have been driven on solar power so no need for AC supply.

My land has an 180 mtr bore hole and uses a 3 phase pump , it came with paperwork in an A4 folder about 2" thick from the junta etc ,it cost the previous owner around 12,000 euro including the pump and cables etc, you would need a massive solar set up (not cost effective) to pump from this far down, better to get a 3 phase geni if mains is not available.

No idea about the power that would have been needed, it was a drilling company the locals all use and they recommended the solar unit, if I remember it all came as a purpose built unit, none of the locals have electric so 3 phase or AC supply is out. The area we had them look at has water in abundance so maybe the fact that the well would not need to have been very deep influences this.

Our irrigation water now comes piped directly into our finca and at only €0,10 per cubic metre it has rendered my well pretty much redundant. Compared to the town hall water at upwards of €0,50 depending on usage we hope to save a fortune on both water and electricity this year.
