Why not host it yourself, if it's not your absolute bread and butter.
Use (eg) no-ip.com - you have a piece of software to update your dns every so often and then they can point your own domain at your own pc. At the moment mine is hosted on my laptop on cable (virgin) in uk. As long as you have a broadband connection then its totally simple.
If you have a static ip address where you live, then its even easier. Just point your domain to your ip address. Website builders and hosters will tell you what you need to hear so they can sell you a service, so why not cut out the middle man and the middle expense and host it yourself.
At the moment my site is temporary until I get the real thing sorted out. The one on my domain is a couple of hours jobby. The real thing will be more visitor friendly, with a better balance of imagery/words/advice/content.
However, even my "couple of hours to construct" site can still pull in top pages on google for holistic malaga, holistic therapy malaga, sunflower malaga...
so hopefully the new one, when I finally get enough time, will be better to look at AND keep top pages
HOST IT YOURSELF on your own computer.

I agree, ha ha ha
like I say I have multiple servers in our rack, which is located in a private cage at BlueSquare, Maidenhead. WWW0 is located in a rack in Redbus, Soverign House in london. All our machines run Windows 2003 Server, and all feature RAID controllers for data security and Dual Processors for reliability.
I dont mind taking people from here for small donation's because it helps to pay for it

Hack me!
(Then let me know)
Some people need the security of having someone else host for them. Some people are not confident about writing pages for the internet. Some people are just lazy. Fine. But for those who don't mind having a go (if it's not a bread and butter/survival website) then do it yourself. The only really tacky part of my temporary one at the moment is the dropdown. I hate them, but they are quick and easy and they work. You can learn a lot. I have used various programs, with plain html, javascript, etc... and cms with php/mysql and they all work after tweaking. If you see something on another site, copy it.
I use Apache, mysql and php inaddition to the standard html etc.
I find it a little insulting and offensive that someone who doesn't know me laughs and belittles publicly in order maybe to get another customer. If that is how you treat strangers how do you treat those whose money you take.

sound like you could be someone else's bread and butter if you believe the hype from these.
