well if you think that the benefits in the UK are paulty, then you are in for a shock if you looked into what would be available to you in Spain in the same circumstances.
Here you get nothing in the way of unemployment benefit unless you have paid into the system, and then it is limited to a few months for every year worked un to a max of 2 years, that is as things stand now, but as cuts are being made due to the crisis.
So sometimes the devil you know and all that....

Perhaps not the area you may be looking at, but i have found a couple of adds by businesses selling cards along with other things. If you are down that way you may like to call in - unless there are others here who can give you a report

You would be buying a very low paid job(if at all) with very long hours in my opinion.
As for the International book shop, who are you going to sell books too? hardly any expats left in that area , there was a large expat book shop in Almunecar 18 months ago, been open for years - now closed.
The sad truth is 99% of business`s for sale in Spain are worthless ,business vendors should be paying the buyer to take on their responsibilty of paying the lease /rent!, then you have fixturs and fittings , most expat bars fixtures would not fetch 100 euros on a car boot sale , finally you are left with stock , most bars wont hold more than 1k`s worth of alchohol , then you will have all the legal fees for transfer of ownership so that leaves bars being worthless, fact.

Only the Sun but useful read for wannabe bar/shop owners. Benidorm is on it's knees.

I've heard claims for 20 years that Benidorm is on its last legs.
It's not the place I choose to head for, but I suspect there's a lot of life left in that particular resort.

The second comment on there from someone who actually lives in Benidorm totally refutes the article! Who to believe???

It seems as though that Sun article has upset someone else in Benidorm!

Personally I'm more put off a place by crowds like that, but at least it shows the Sun are probably talking out of their derriere...

I already told you on another thread that there were loads of shops and restaurants closed (20 on the pedestrian walk from the back to the beach). However Id have to say the the Southern areas looked perfectly healthy to me. So theres clearly a North South divide appearing
