Popped over to the UK for 24 hours Wed's Night, went central, (Cheap Ryan air flight) got back last night, My God, did I see some rain.......................Lovely summer eh?
Thanks to all those that told me it had changed over there.
I saw 4 smashes was in 3 Q's Got soaked to the skin, all my papers were soaked inside my case and it was so dark I thought it was night. M6 was like a car park.
The only good thing was the restaurant food.
Did I miss something?....... Can't wait to return.

I normally like the British summer, so long as it really is changeable eg 3 sunny days followed by a couple of rainy days, then sunny again.
But this summer has been too much

Weather is crap right now, worse in the North but not exactly good in the South. lots of events been called off. Still think I am fortunate to be here though
I could be stuck in Spain with an unsellable house and watching it go down with the country! We are having Grandson for a week, decided to take him to Rhodes rather than risk a week of rain, at least we have a choice!
PS. buy a decent case!!

I actually emjoyed it, and decided I might buy a place there after all, so many things I do miss, but it won't be a permanent move if I do.
Oh and the biggest thing I noticed was the smell, all the time there was a wet leaves and grassy type of smell, not unpleasant but strong all the time everywhere, even strong in the car.

Some of us don't want to sell or to go back, so we don't give a dam about falling house prices...and anyway it's much the same in the UK!

I hate the British summers but most of all I detest the British winters... I can't wait to get over to my beloved Spain permanently and settle out for my retirement... I am looking forward to getting shot of these aches and pains if only for a while till they creep back. The pace and way of life in Spain (not to mention the weather) is just perfect for me.

So you've decided to take a holiday in the only country in Europe going down the proverbial faster than Spain, then?

We have been in England for the last 10 days. I agree about the smells of cut grass and wet soil - I rather like it and everywhere is very green. We have been lent an MGF for our stay here. It would be nice to get the roof open just once.
ETA I also agree about affordable restaurant food. I had breakfast at a local country pub the other day - £4.95 including a mug of tea - absolutely superb. Very good evening meals including drinks for £12 - 15 a head.
Still can't wait to get 'home'.

. I'll be back in August for the Olympics and I shall enjoy every minute there, even if it rains
I dont NEED to go back, I just think it's a beautiful country and it's somewhere I enjoy going to

House prices aren't falling in the UK...........they went up 1% last month, not as good as it was but nowhere near the train crash in Spain. I agree though it doesn't matter if you are settled.

I love going back to the UK on visits. I'm never quite sure why people hate it so much

I would have welcomed a days rain when living in 35C every day.

I'll take rain over bush fires any day of the week.

Very high temperatures and bush fires are the norm in Greece at this time of year - I've seen the landscape very badly affected by fires in both Skiathos and Ithaca when on holiday there. In fact we had to evacuate our holiday accommodation on Ithaca and muster at the harbour (organised officially) in case we had to be taken off the island by boat if the fire got any nearer to the town.
